Neck Knives
« on: March 19, 2010, 08:06:28 AM »
Here is something that is talked about occasionaly that I thought you might get a kick out of.
The one on the left was made by a very good friend in Wisconsin about 10 yrs ago and is 7" long with curly maple scales and brass pins. It was my all around using knife when I was into mountain man reenactment.
The two on the left are 6 1/4" long and were made from straight razor blanks. Dixie Gun Works use to sell them don't know if they still do. They normally ride in a sheath on the strap of my possibles bag. The one with the brass pommel is very useful to start a ball.  Set your patch with the ball on top and tap it down with the knife, switch ends and trim your patch. Very handy.
They will also hold a wicked edge for a long time.
Lost..... I ain't never been lost...... fearsome confused fer a month er two once... but I never been lost.

Thank ya kindly. In the pix above you can sorta see the neck knife I wear in my daily cowboy attire. It is made from an old file and has a curley maple handle similar to yours.

have a good weekend.

I'm a field service technician and wear a neck knife every day for it's practicality. Whole lot more efficient than a pocket knife. All are wood or antler-handled with leather sheathes, and my preference is for smaller and sharper (just need to make a quick cut). I've got a few, but they're hard to find. 1-1/4" X-acto blade on a 2" antler-tip handle is my favorite.

Some pick out their necktie in the morning.....

If anybody has a good source, I'd be thankin' them...

Get lots of wondering, positive comments from the folks I come into contact with!
