they have a rock climbing contest's  over here about 5 miles from the house,  The Cass Rock Climb, all kinds of veheciles  it's been on the outdoor channel more than once.

they's a few folks around here, got Jeeps, land cruisers,  for climbing, sometimes it's hard to believe what they can get them things over and through,  some of em got the big engines in and some the stock engines, with the right gearing and tires, the old 4 cylinders seem to do the best, they just crawl  real slow over the rocks,  course a few always turn over or fall off a rock and have to be winched out or turned back on thier wheels.

Anyone taken a look at the stickers on Land Cruisers?  I might pay that for two of ‘em if I was in the market for that type vehicle.  Looked at one not long ago at the Toyota store.  Sixty three thousand dollars.  They can keep 'em.

Gave my new Mercury to Pleazin’ not long after we were married.  Bought me a wrecked ’65 Ford pick up.  Had the frame horn (left) straightened ‘n bought the front end body werk off a totaled ’64 (so, the grill didn’t match).  I did salvage the ‘Twin I-Beam’ emblems ‘n stuck ‘em back on.

Hated Aunty Em’s Falcon six cylinder in it.  They hadn’t punched ‘em out to 300 cid back then.  Bought a 302 out of a totaled ’73 Torino from Al Rudd’s Used Auto Parts.  Yep, Ricky Rudd’s daddy.  He ‘n my daddy raced against one another in the fifties.  He always did me right on stuff.

Warmed it up a touch (I’ve still got the intake around here somewhere – put the stock stuff back before I sold it) ‘n stuck that in there.  Exhaust was all messed up ‘n wound up with a cheap set of adapter headers from J.C. Whitney ‘n the rest was made up of clamps ‘n off the shelf mandrel bends – damn it was ugly but it sounded good.

Left the factory gear in it.  When it was good ‘n dry, ‘n I had a little weight in the back, you could pop the clutch ‘n counter rotate the Earth if she hooked up.  Once she gave a little chirp she’d just sit there ‘n spin.

Man, I’d love to have the inspiration to do something like build that truck again.  Really need to get to work on the Thunderbird.  At least clean it up and get it running.  Just seems like there’s always something else to do………………

Arcey, I use to like Motorcycle (Bonnevilles) like that, spent all my extra cash and time on them.....Don't miss 'em.. I figgered the new Land Cruiser was up there, didn't think it wanted to compete in price with Hummer but they are. I'd bet they ain't half the vechile the old ones were. As far as work ability. Heck my first 2 house didn't cost that much

Arcey, the 300 Six is a different anny-mule that the little six they put in Falcoons and Musk-rats.  They borrowed this one from the Ford Tractor division.  It's the old  long stroke narrow bore design, made for low end power.  Course at one time the Ford Tractor Division used Model T engines (Fordson) and a Flat Head V8 sawed in half (Ford-Ferguson and 8-N)

Those 300's could really pull. Probably have more torque than the 4.2 V-6 in my current F-truck. Plus with decent service, they run for a long time.............Buck Cool Wink

Most likely got enough torque to turn yer V-6 inside out, but yer V-6 will wind out further, 75 in 5th and 60 in fourth and you can tell, it'll go more, but don't like it. Grin

They’d pull ‘cuz they were geared for the task.  The torque numbers were to be expected from that configuration.  That’s why highway speed causes ‘em to breath kindah hard.

Had family ‘n family friends that worked for Ford long as I can remember.  Sales, service ‘n assembly plant employees.  An assembly plant for the F series is just down the road from here in Norfolk.  Gonna close soon.  That’s where all five of the ones I’ve owned have been built.  Had a habit of finding out what I was getting’ before I got it, new or used.  Had good sources to go to.

Ain’t gonna argue.  No point in it.  Any change of mind I have is gonna have ta come at the word of a higher authority.  Hope ya understand.

Accually we're both right, a long stroke, small bore has more on the low end, add that to gears and ya got it, but they don't rev worth a durn, ya don't want to run em 6000 rpm all day.  I think that and the 292 Chevy/GMC 6 were the only old type left after 63-64,  farmers always were the best customer for these.  Durn things will still pull at around 500 rpm, but will over heat on a hot day.

Arcey, my F-truck was made at Norfolk. It's been a pretty good ride, has a little over 96,400 on it now...............Buck Cool Wink

Glad ya like it, Buck.  Lots of folks 'round here in an uproar o'er Ford shuttin' that place down.

Took my ride home from bein' borned at the horse pistol in a '48.  First daughter took her first ride in my '78 'n learned how to drive in my '90.  All assembled in Norfolk.

Step Father went to work there after WWII.  Lots of history.

Prolly a site somewhere where ya could bust the VIN if ya wanted.  Arizona was most likely a different plant from here.

Don't know if they still have the plant but most of em sold around here used to be made in KC.  Guess it don't make know differeance where it was made as long as it starts and goes where I want it to go. Grin

The plant code would be in that VIN. Arcey, they're shutting down the Lorain plant, too. Make the E-series vans there and the little Escape SUV's. My youngest DIL's was made there. Believe the Brookpark engine plant is safe for the moment.........Buck Cool Roll Eyes Wink

Hehehehehehehehe……. Don’t I know it?

Wrote a program, on my time, for a Commodore 64 to bust the things so we didn’t have to do it manually back when I was doin’ stolen cars.  Geez.  That was before Andi was born.  She’ll be 21 in January.

Took it to the office, set it up ‘n demonstrated it to the XO.  Told me to forget it.  He wasn’t gonna let me submit a budget request for a computer.  The Detective Bureau would NEVER go to computers.  After he left, I wrote the budget request for the first PC ‘n got it.  Last time I was in there every desk had a computer on it.

He went on to make Deputy Chief.  Then he retired.  He’s a Harley Davidson mechanic these days.  I guess ‘cuz he likes it.  I don’t need the money on my retirement.  He sure as hell don’t on his.  But, who am I to say?
