Daniel,

You make good sense Sir.

I cut and pasted my comments from their contact us page!!

To Mr. Olen and Company,

It has been brought to my attention that you will not ship ammunition to California.  An associate of mine has stated that you are quoting non-existent regulations and laws.  If you truly support the shooting sports California should be the MOST IMPORTANT state to ship to.  CA needs the support of the shooting community more than any other.  I recently purchased an M1 Garand and knowing that you carry rifle ammo and gear, I considered ordering a catalog.  I must stand together with my compatriots and say NO THANKS to Sportmans Guide.

Sincerely,

Richard C. Celia

Well Folks here is the LAME response from S/G!!!!

Hello Richard,
Thank you for your email.
Thank you for your question on items that have mailing restrictions.
We have placed restrictions on specific items listed in our catalog and our web site.
Due to the various state, county and municipal laws that exist, we are not always able to comply with each individual guideline.
Not all of the restrictions are based on laws on the books, but could be a company decision based on other particular concerns. These may include whether the state has law suits pending involving gun owners and recent court decisions that may affect businesses like ours.
Also, it may be that the states' laws are so vague that they could be interpreted unfavorably in the event a court action was ever involved.
We do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. If you have any questions please contact us.

That beats the BS response I got.  Looks like the beginnings of damage control / spin.

Well, I finally received a non-response response from them.  They basically said "too bad, so sad" and that they were refunding the balance of my club membership.

Pards, this REALLY pisses me off.  As I've said before, they've essentially decided to write off the business they'd get from the ENTIRE STATE OF CALIFORNIA, and they've cloaked it under the so-called "California restrictive laws and lawsuits" which I've proved to them don't exist.

Once again, I call upon all non-California shooters to communicate their collective displeasure to Shooters Guide regarding this decision, and to boycott ALL of their merchandise.

Do I expect them to change their position?  Actually, no.  What I DO WANT, however, is to forcibly impress upon Gary Olen and company that,"If you mess with one of us, you mess with ALL of us."

Is that too much to ask of my pards here on this Board? I sincerely hope not.

Daniel,
I put my 2 cents in from Nevada. Other "big box stores" will treat you guys right & still ship what they can to 'ya within the law of your land. Sounds like the company just "hosed off" your business, I stated they are LOSIN' alot  Tongue

I know your frustration.  I wrote them off a couple of years ago.  Here in Hawaii we weren't even in the running.  Just a flat NO.

They don't seem to care.

Slapping them with their own wallet might help.  Don't buy from them and tell them why.

Daniel,

I got a reply via e-mail yesterday from Sportsman's, explaining the fairy tale laws much like you received. I indicated in my letter the business loss would be substaintial from your state, and you folks depend on mail orders to foster your 2nd Amendment rights just like the rest of us across the nation. I did indicate my reasoning was to support my pards at Cass City to NEVER order their goods or services and I'd urge my friends & family to stay clear as well.
Those folks are "lawsuit gun shy" I'd say being scared of the big bad wolf that ain't comin is more closer to the truth.
All I can say is I did throw in my 2 cents worth Smiley

It goes way beyond not shipping ammo to CA. They will not ship black powder/muzzleloading pistols or rifles or black powder supplies to California! They won't even ship a a BB gun to CA!
I went round and round in circles with them when I tried to pin them down as for the reasons; but the kept spouting crap and lies, ie, "Air rifles have to be < .177 cal, and <700fps and can't have a barrel that looks  like a rifle or a pistol" What!
From me: "So I can have a bb gun < .177 sent to CA as long as it doesn't look like a rifle or pistol?" Answer: "No It can't be shipped to CA ." But you just said........
It seems they train their flunkies to make the rules up on the fly.
When I insisted that I need to know of the "reasons" for this idiotic restriction; they kept referring me to the CA Attorney General's office. There ARE NO laws in CA about shipping black powder guns or air rifles into the state. It's just the SG .

Between my brothers and myself, they just lost some of their best customers. In this climate of undue firearm restrictions looming over our heads, we don't need some  adding to the idiocy. Please spread the gospel. Thanks.

I won't buy anything from them as they have the most idiotic restrictions on what to ship where.
