The Legend of Hell's Gate: An American Conspiracy

This is a new 1870's period movie that was filmed around the DFW area (mostly Possom Kingdom Lake).  Looks like it's slated for release this summer:

Dave,

They are planning to release a trailer or teaser video on their web site next week:

http://www.thelegendofhellsgate.com/

There is nothing official regarding release dates, other than "anticipated for summer '10".  I don't know if it will be theatrical or direct to DVD.

I didn't know about the movie when I saw Buck a couple of weeks ago. I'll ask him about the next time I see him in a couple of months.

I see in the credits it stars Summer Glau. She's a San Antonio native and has played interesting roles in "Firefly" (the TV Series created by Joss Whedon), "Serenity" (the big screen movie based on the Firefly TV series), and most recently as the "Terminatrix" in the TV series "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles."

This film is being screened at the Dallas Film Festival tonight at the Angelica Theater at 7 and 10pm.  Summer Glau will be there.

I've got a buddy who got tickets to the screening.

Looks like this will finally make it to the public.  A buddy of mine saw a screening of it at the Dallas Film Festival and really liked it.

Last fall, I chaperoned by daughter's 5th grade class on a camping and hiking retreat to Possom Kingdom.  We got to hike the Hell's Gate area:  Beautiful country side.

This is from the producer:

Through Phase 4 Films and Lightning Entertainment, the film will be released February 1st On Demand with select cable providers. Will be released On Demand beginning in March to most other forms of cable and satellite television providers and also in March, a limited theatrical release in select cities and towns in the southern part of the U.S. The OFFICIAL poster and NEW trailer will also drop in March, followed by the LIONSGATE DVD/Blu Ray release of the film nationwide in June. ICAP Media is distributing the film in all foreign markets beginning Jan. 2012.
Thanks for your support!

If it makes it to DVD in time, I'll try to bring a copy to the Nationals for screening.  I think everyone enjoyed the screening of True Grit we did last year.

Finally got to watch this film this weekend.  It is a good Western and worth your time.

It does lend some "historic license" as it is labeled as a historic fiction.  The acting is above average and there is loads of gun play.

It touches on some neat local lore to the North Texas area:

1)  Doc Holliday's dental practice in Dallas (where he extracts teeth while drinking.)
2)  The legend that John Wilkes Booth assumed an alias and lived his days out in Grandbury.
3)  The James/Younger gang's expoits in our area.

I picked up a copy from Amazon for $15.

I believe that Netflix has it for rental already.

Rented it last night on pay for view. I had trouble following the movie. I fell asleep twice and finally turned it off. But please don't take my word for it. I ain't a movie critic.

Howdy Mr Smith,

Thanks for your comments. Never did see the ending. I'm going to try it again from Netflx and concentrate more.

A new Video store opened up in our town so I watched it again last night. It still was hard to follow but the ending cleared it up a bit. I don't think I'll buy the DVD though.

I rented it, not much. Did like Buck Taylor's small part though. Tj
