Pernell Roberts RIP
« on: January 25, 2010, 06:30:54 PM »
Well the whole Bonanza Gang is now ridin' the range in heaven.
Pernell Roberts passed away this morning at the age of 81 at his home in Malibu. Though he acted in many other TV shows & starred in movied he will best remembered by all as "Adam".
Godspeed  :'( :(

The studio set near Virginia City where they filmed "Bonanza" was sold a couple years ago. The Cartwrights are riding the range for the Big Trailboss in the Sky. Ride easy, Boys.

There are so many neighborhoods with the "Bonanza" references still around here in Northern Nevada the legacy of the show will never die here. A casino named after the show, streets named "Cartwright", etc.... 'Ol Virginia City still a fun place you can still pan for gold or watch the "Out House" and Camel races.  :) :D ;D

Started watching Bonanza when it first came on TV. Think I was about 5 years old or so....back when the peacock came on the air at 10:00 PM every night.  I still watch Bonanza almost everyday here - 12:00 noon on a local channel - right before Gunsmoke!  :D

Adam was the fist cowboy dressed in black that I ever saw with cuffs on his pant legs. Always struck me as odd, and not authentic.
I don't think he has done any acting for many years, but it's still sad to see him leave.....  :'(

I did see Texas Lawdog's post about the sale of the movie set used in Virginia City a couple of years ago.

The 'ol town of VC, Reno, Carson City still have "Bonanza's" themes in keepin' the cowboy traditions alive and well here in Northern Nevada. The Reno Rodeo still hosts the "Annual Cattle Drive" to drive the ropin' steers to kick off each rodeo. They travel 100 miles through brush poppin' country just like Billy Crystal, (and dudes are WELCOME) and lead them doggies right in the Reno Livestock Events Center coverin' city streets to get there. The LEO's love it too or (maybe just put up with it) to also be part of the chaos. The local folks here come to watch a dyin' tradtion in this country and enjoy every second. This year will be 91yrs and still countin'. I had a great uncle who came up here from Calif. to team rope in the 1930's-1950's. I am a member of the Reno Rodeo Assoc. and have volunteered my time in the stalls area to make those cowboys' horses comfortable. 'Tis lots of fun and the weather can be tricky  8) ;D
