1858 Army 44 value?
« on: March 11, 2016, 10:07:44 PM »
Recently a friend showed me a family heirloom 44 Army Remington from the Civil War.  Manufactured in 1864 and carried in the war by an officer in a New York regiment.  Here are some pics:

As you can see it has a lot of finish left.

Strong inspectors cartouche.

Matching inspector marks on frame and barrel.

Serial number on underside of barrel.  Re-stamp or re-barrel?

Inspectors mark on cylinder.

Manufactures markings on barrel top.

Any information anyone can provide is welcome.  I know my way around Colt SAAs and bit about their C&Bs, but Remingtons are an un known to me.  Many thanks.

I probably know less than you do about them, but that one is in GREAT shape.  Cool!

As to value, I'd suggest a check of some antique auction sites for comparable guns. The Ubertis look most like that one compared to Pietta & Euroarms.

Since I have 14+ guns, I've been called the Imelda Marcos of Cap&Ball. Now, that's a COMPLIMENT!

Check the Julia auction site.  they generally have 1858s.  Nice piece of History.  I am guessing around $5,000 to $6,000...more if there ir provenance about its owner in the Civil War.
