Here is a Uberti 1876 .

Hi Rowdy,

I haven't been hunting in a long time, but if I decide to get back into it I love the idea of using a vintage firearm.
I have a Uberti 76 in 50-95 (amongst other Uberti and Browning lever guns).  It's just beautiful and I'm just starting to use it at the range.  It would be a really cool thing to use Teddy Roosevelt's favorite rifle for my first foray back into deer hunting.

I would need a sling for it, but I will not put in screwed-in swivels.  Have you seen and/or used swivel-less slings like Shiloh Rifles has?

BTW - I really like the picture of you with the 73 and that buck.  I'd love to experience that.

Glad to hear you want to go on a Vintage Hunt . And yes if you decide to use a 76 a sling is the way to go . I use a old Muzzle Loader sling because I don't want the swivel studs on my rifle either . Good Luck and enjoy yourself , it's your adventure enjoy every second .

Nice pictures Rowdy. Brought back some old memories of when we were both doing the barrel conversions on our rifles. I had to dig out my old picture of the comparison on my 45/60 [short] and 45/75 -  before I chopped the 45.75 of course.

Now is the time to check your rifle . A few shots now could mean the difference between a tracking wounded animal instead of a one shot one KILL .

Howdy Folks,

We are right at 1 month till opening day of gun season for whitetails here in Tennessee.  I have shepherded my time off this year to save a few days to try and line one up in the 76 sights (one more year of that then I will be a bum again - retirement - and not have to worry about saving time off!!  ;D).  Rifle and ammo are ready, looking at the weather this afternoon there is a large storm front bearing down on us with the promise of cooler weather this week.  Bow season is already open, but I am holding out for the favorite - rifle!  How about it friends and neighbors, is everyone starting to feel the change in seasons?  Excitement is in the air with the change.  Here is hoping this is a good season.  Got to reading Mr. Rowdy's postings here and that plus the weather change has got the excitement going!

P.B.

Mr. Pinto Beans, Howdy back at Ya!. You are not the only one feeling the change and is counting the days until rifle season. Have been making my rounds and getting to see that the bucks are hard antlered and starting to show themselves a bit. Have been lucky enough to get a look at a couple Wt. buck that are a bit better than normal !Looking forward to the coming season. And hope you and everyone here has a productive and safe hunting season. ,,,,,,,,,DT

King,
That's down right un-American.  I wonder what Abe Lincoln would say to that?

Say what you will about chaparral, They are accurate !! I took a forked horn at 55 yards through the neck. My wife shot a nice doe through the neck :o at 87 yards.  And my son shot his doe at 104 yards through the heart.
We used the same rifle .45-75 26" barrel marble sights formed brass from .50 Alaskan 73 grains 2f Goex  Hornady 350 grain bullet.
I am going to have to have them get their own ::)
