76 pistol grip rear stock?

Would a rear stock off of a Uberti 73 fit a Uberti 76? Got an idea to build a special sporting 76, with half round barrel trimmed to say 26" and a half mag with the pistol grip style but stock.
Has this been done and where would be a good place to get the rear stock, and would it be necisary to reshape the leaver?
Thanks

Sounds like a great project! However, the 1873 stock will not interchange. The stock on the 76 is longer and just a bit larger. In addition, on the 76, the lower tang is and integral part of the receiver, and I think you would have to alter that, as well as reshape the lever. The lower tang on the 73 is a separate piece.
Check the Madis Winchester Book, and see if you can find a pic of a 76 with a pistol grip. I seem to recall one, and it seems there was something odd about it - may have used a regular lever?
Its heck getting old!
That said, someone may produce a pistol grip stock for the 76, but I haven't seen on. Still, sounds like a cool idea!

Thanks, I can do the metal work, the wood work not so much. If there was a pre inletted and rough shaped stock it would be OK, and I tried checkering one time, that was enough to convince me I was better leaving it alone!
Got to thinking, the 22" barrel is nice and handy, but something between the 28" and 22" would realy hit the spot, especialy with say a 5 round mag. and half round barrel should be very handy and yet still have a long sight radius. Would love to put a pistol grip stock on, but I believe that would entail bending the lower tange and leaver as well. Not that hard to do, but finding the rite piece of wood looks daunting.
Wasn't there somebody on the boards who shortened there barrel and turned it half round and shortened the mag?

[/qote] Will,
Precision Gun Works (precisiongunworks.com) shows a semi-inletted pistol grip stock for an origional 76. It is not available now,
but I suspect it may be soon, call them if you're interested, they will work with you in my experience.
In a post back in July, Grizzly Adams said that his Uberti 76 and an origional butt stocks were interchangable,so that stock should work.
I believe the lower tang and possibly the lever will need to be altered.
Best of luck and keep us posted on your progress.
