A little off subject.  We went to the Tunnel Hill, GA reinactment and I thought you might want to see a few of the 100 or so photos I shot.    For those of you that are not familiar...Tunnel Hill, was a rear action battle that occurred after the battles of Missionary Ridge and Lookout Mountain here in Chattanooga.  Confederate General Bragg, was retreating and left behind units to slow down the Union Army which was persuing after Missionary Ridge.  It was also the base location for the movie "The Great Locomotive Chase"  with Fess Parker.  Most of the people that stole that train (the General) were hanged as spys and are buried here in the National Cemetary here in Chattanooga.

The smoke ring in photo 108 is from a cannon that had just fired....

Great pics, Outrider.

Pards, is it possible to get a western novel published nowadays or is the genre as dead as mutton?

Which publishing houses, if any, publish them?

My first novel, Legends was published in 2005, and Cavanaugh: The Last bounty was two years later.

Despite good reviews and a movie company showing interest (and then losing interest), Legends hasn't passed the 2,000 mark yet and Cavanaugh is just over 300.  At less than $3.00 per book royalty, I haven't even made expenses.

I'm sure there are some good novels out there (published and unpublished), but if you re looking to make any money you'd be better off collecting aluminum can and recycling them.

It is, however, mighty satisfying to get folks telling you they've read your yarns.

Amazon will allow you to self-publish through Createspace.com (their subsidiary). It costs nothing and printing is on demand only, no pre-printed books someone has to pay for. Your book will end up on the Amazon book list, available through Amazon.com. I did it for a dowsing manual I wrote and with a narrow market for that, it still sells enough to net a small royalty check eath month. Here's a link: https://www.createspace.com/

The black mag holder in the middle is the latest in an attempt to perfect a unit that is reproducible without too much hassle. I would like to have one with snaps on the bottom, but I don’t like the length required. It’s on a 2 ½ inch belt

I think I’m going to make a couple with less up and down length to see how that works. Any and all ideas are welcome. Thanks, JD

I think you have these holders nailed, JD. You could make ones with snaps without too much additional length but I do have to admit that I like them sewn or riveted myself. Your two molded ones are great. Shorter would be fine, but you may not gain much in performance. As long as you can get them out quickly, just drop the empty and load a full one. Pick up the spent one(s) after the stage is completed. Just keep a couple earmarked for drop-free shooting. Very nice work, pard.

For rigs that are more  flashy, you could use the decorative nickel silver Chicago screws.

Thanks for the feedback Marshall, I appreciate it. Making them shorter is about looks more than anything else. As far as snaps go, I'm looking for ways to get one on a belt with a sewn billet. I could do it with Chicago screws as well, which would be more secure, but not as quick or easy. Just thinking out loud.

I could do that Dr. Bob, but most of the guys I know that shoot Wild Bunch aren't really Bling guys. Marshall Will's idea of fancy Chicago screws is a good one, but I will need to find some longer ones than Tandy sells.

JD, I just got some plain Chrome chicago screws from Tandy that are 1/2" long.  Part number 1293-02

AC

PS, they all look great.

Thanks AC, that's what I used. Marshall Will was suggesting the fancier Chicago screw tops. The ones Tandy sells aren't long enough for this proget. I haven't looked for longer ones anywhere else, but I would guess they are out there.
