Mustache Wax
« on: September 01, 2009, 04:30:51 PM »
O.K.  Gentlemen;
I have a question,  Where do I get Mustache Wax or something similar for my " stache ".
Is there a merchant that sells this stuff?  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Eli

Any place that sells barber/beuty shop supplies should have it.  Also check large drug stores.

I have found it at well-stocked drugstores; it seems that anywhere I have found shaving mugs and brushes I also find wax. In a pinch I have found ordinary chapstick to be very effective, however with my meager upper-lip follicules I really cannot offer any experience for those with anything like the enviable walruses I have seen. I fear my facial hair is more like an elderly chinese philospher's .

Often use a self-blended mix of beeswax and vaseline.

Double boiler, melt together, pour and let harden. Experiment with the blend until you get the consistence that suits you.

One thing - they sometimes provide this stuff in 'color'.

Don't do that - it's all kinds of wrong...

And - use sparingly, since it can give the feel of 'weight' on your upper lip, and if there's something 'weird' going on, it's likely you'll play with it.

Unless your Impression is that of 'Snidely Whiplash' - that just draws unfavorable attention to it, and since we're on that topic - be sure to keep it clean.

'Pinaud' used to provide a small moustache comb along with their product, but any fine-toothed comb will work, and a small hairbrush will work even better, since it has the tendency to get the disparate hairs to sort of twine together.

I wish I had a need for mustache wax >:(.

Was anyone here baldface in their early twenties, then suddenly find a flowing face mane a few years later?

Yup, me! ;D  When I was twenty I could barely raise a mustache.  Now I have worn one for around 30 years...it's gone white now ;)

Before I went into the Army almost 40 years ago, I had shoulder-length hair and a beard.

Being bright, I cut both, but kept the moustache - even wore it through Jump School, and boy, did they make me pay for the effrontery of 'that'...

Mine went grey a long time ago.

So there is hope yet! After about 3 days I get about 10 black little hairs. Im hoping I will wake up one morning with a Grizzly Adams beard to style as I see fit.

I have wickedly thick, better yet, uncomfortably thick hair up top and if my family is any indication, I always will. But it seems facial hair doesn't run too strong. My dad has a thin little mustache and my maternal grandfather was a career military man and kept up the grooming habits after retirement so I have no idea what the outlook is like there. I just want some Friendly Mutton Chops :(

Pinaud is the brand name that has been around forever, though I think it's more a grooming aid for moderate size 'staches than something you'd want to build a handlebar with. In any case, the last time I was in a Walgreens I noticed it was still on the rack.

Darby, all is not lost. When I was your age, I could go several days without shaving. Now I can grow an okay moustache and beard, though I can't do sideboards. Skeet

Wow I envy you, I would love to not have to shave for several days. I am required to be clean shaven at work and it is a major pain. I shave right before I leave the house and have some pretty severe stubble before the shift is over. I can also grow a decent goatee over the weekend.
I do love those silly little horses on my guns

Have had one since the mid '70's. Don't use wax though. Salt and pepper now, mostly salt ::)
As far as a beard goes, the wife don't like'em, plus mine is too thin. The 'stach is fine, but trimmed shorter so no need for wax........Buck 8)

Used wax on mine to train it, back about early 70s. quit usin' it shortly later. If you keep strokin' it, it will stay up!! (Ladies do seem to understand.) (If she asks if she can touch it, GAME OVER!)

Of course, for authenticity sake, you could just wear it with yesterday's soup in it.  ;D
