Well everyone makes mistakes now and then---- Ruger! Ruger! Ruger! Yea Ruger! j/k enjoy your new toy!

WELL!  While buying a Ruger is certainly no mistake, neither is an AWA.  Fine guns and they'll interchange parts with a 2nd Gen. Colt ... which IS the King, after all.

AWA, EMF, Beretta/Uberti, Pietta, Cimarron, USFA, Dixie - take your pick.  They're ALL quality guns.  (But the Ruger IS the toughest and the LEAST authentic!  ;) ;) )

Well Hoss, "I cut my teeth" so to speak on Ruger Revolvers, maybe I'm just an ole "stick in the mud, But to tell the truth, I fail to see why anyone who started in this sport with a Ruger Revolver would ever go to anything else least authentic or no. jmo though.

Used Rugers the first couple years. Shot a SAA clone ‘n switched over from the clunky Rugers. The clones feel so much better to me.

Never looked back. Ain’t been sorry either. Anyone should be able understand that.

Well, Howdy!

Cyrille, isn't this sport great!  We can have different opinions and the end result is still FUN, no matter what pistol you use!  ;D

Well Hoss, "I cut my teeth" so to speak on Ruger Revolvers, maybe I'm just an ole "stick in the mud, But to tell the truth, I fail to see why anyone who started in this sport with a Ruger Revolver would ever go to anything else least authentic or no. jmo though.

My first 5   CAS pistols were Rugers, and I still have one.  I doubt I'll ever get rid of it ... it's a FINE, smooth, good shootin' piece!  I DO shoot much more NCOWS than SASS, so historical accuracy is important to me.  Lest ANYONE get the wrong idea, howsomever - Ruger Vaqueros and New Vaqueros are legal for NCOWS use, just not the Bisley Vaquero.  But, I had never held a real SAA (or clone) until I held the AWA.  It just seemed to fit my hands perfectly!   I don't even really mind the extra size of the Rugers. (old ones - I haven't yet held a New Vaq) I just prefer the feel of the original.  My AWA was more accurate from the box than any of my Rugers, which were VERY accurate - but ALL of them shot low and left.  :-\  I dunno why.  I'm usin' the same loads that I used with the RuVaqs; 250 gr. pill pushed by a full case of FFFg!  ;)  Or, for the few times I still shoot smokeyless, the same bullet sent downrange by 5.1 grs. of Clays.

Diff'rent strokes fer diff'rent folks. :D :D

Howdy, y'all!

4 eyed Floyd, I didn't change the mainspring on mine, but I DID put one of the Wolff or Heine (from Brownell's) replacement bolt/trigger springs in my Longhorn.  It made a big difference in smoothness.  The trigger pull was already at 3 lbs. so it was fine, but the new spring made everything smoother AND it is now @ 2.75 lbs. pull.

I put the same spring in my Iver Johnson (Uberti) 1860 Army Colt.  It smoothed it up even more than the Longhorn!  I wish Wolff or Heine made the same spring for ALL my single action guns!

Ho Large Hext,

Your poll is faulty.  I won't vote in it.  It's like asking what rifle do you prefer and making "Winchester" a choice.  There are simply too many Winchesters to make the brand a choice and really poll preferences.  Same goes for Ruger.  There's too many different Rugers.

True, there are many diffrent Rugers, and to my knowledge none are true copies of any gun that was around in the 1800s. However we are discussing SAA type revolvers and that narrows the field a bit. Caliber is also a matter of personal prefference which tends to widen the field some  but in a diffrent direction. I like Rugers, particularly the older Vaqueros and I prefer .45 caliber LCs which leaves me with one gun or brace of guns and rifle caliber that I can use when shooting SASS or CAS.

I didn't mean to come off that harsh.  Must be the dirt in all the politics that has me jumpy about voting.  Ok, I like Rugers.  But, I like old moder Vaqueros with 7-1/2" tubes in 44 Cal.

Me too only I prefer 5 1/2 inch tubes in .45 caliber. And just so you know I shoot the Holy Black outta them!

Uberti-made EMF New Dakota, 7 1/2" barrel in .45 Colt. Repaced the black chrome plated-brass trigger guard and backstrap with a steel set from a Model P. The thing just doesn't miss.

After a year with my RNVs, I'll have to change mine to the RNVs.

I like my Colt 2nd model Dragoon (replica).  It's big, accurate, powerful, and loud.  It aims and points quickly .  Did I mention loud?  It's the loudest gun at the match, and it gets attention!  Really adds to the "fun factor".

Currently the New Model Vaquero in 45Colt. They really work well for me. Unfortunatelt the big batch of Winchester cowboy ammo is a bit off, not as good in these guns as the old MagTec stuff. I have huge hands, but strangely enough, I accidentally 'slipped' the hammer a lot more with the old model and my NMSBH. The Colt sized grip seems to work better for me, go figure?

I love the 45 and really like the way I can just chuck the rounds into the cylinder, the chamber opening is so big, there is nothing to catch up on, they just fall straightin with a satisfying schloooooNK!!!

Having said that, I have bought new guns, all in 44WCF (1873 rifle as well) as I intend to start shooting classic cowboy and will convert to black powder when I have got on top of the muscle memory required for the new discipline (one learning curve at a time thanks).

The guns are Piettas in 44WCF 4 5/8" Bbls with an action job. They are sweet, but I haven't competed with them yet. I won't be getting rid of the 45 NMVs until the clones prove themselves. If they work out all right, I have a NIB 44WCF Dakota clone, I will get it slicked up and use it as a back up gun.

Strangely enough I saw my 44Mag Old Model Vaquero in the gunshop I traded it in for the NMVs. Big bores don't sell well here, as they require a special permit (easily obtained, but most shooters don't bother, which I find strange). I am in two minds whether to buy it back or not, I have up trying to find a mate for it and traded it on the pair of NMVs mentioned above. It needs a good home, but apart from being my first SA it doesn't have many other redeeming features, I have an older Blued 44Mag SBH with the long barrel (10" or something like that) and a 44Mag SS/NMSBH in 5 1/2" so I'm pretty well fixed for 44s.

Decisions, decisions!
All my cowboy gun's calibres start with a 4! It's gotta be big bore and whomp some!

I like my Rugers because they're not just a worthless toy like so many of the imports and the NEW Vaquero.

With my OLD model Vaqueros, I can shoot target loads or the fire breathing loads that cause everyone else at the indoor range to bench their guns and come over to find out whether or not I'm firing a cannon. I can hunt paper targets or grizzly bears with the same gun. With my H-110 loads, I'm afraid to shoot paper targets too close, for fear of setting them on fire!
