FOR TRADE

I have an 1860 that I bought form Halfway Creek Charlie that has tacks on the left side of the buttstock in the shape of a "Bear Paw". It is well done and attractive, just doesn't blow my skirt up! So I am looking for a trade. I will take a stock that is scratched or needs to be refinished. Here's yer chance to upgrade!

I remember that Henry and Charlie, he had just got it ,and planned to convert it to his design 44 Flat ... Haven't heard from him in coons age  Embarrassed

I remember they were selling the Horse Ranch he managed, and he was looking to move east...
That had to be a year ago or more cause my two Henry's are posted in the next post dated July 07, 2007.
Then I think he found another spread just down the road and hoped to hire on there...
But from then on nothing  Undecided

Sorry to highjack Hoof.... just wondering out loud about the Old Dragoon  Wink

Major

I thought I had posted this before Undecided

Yes Charlie moved, like you said. I purchased some of his Remingtons (he had also experimented on them). He up and called me a few months ago and wanted to sell the "Bear Paw". I have had to make some repairs (unbeknownst to me).

The stock looks pretty cool. It's just not what this rifle will end up "needing". The rest of the rifle was pretty buggered up so I am fixing the damage to the barrel (musta been when he turned it out to drill the chamber and install the insert). Then I'm going to have to rust blue and go with the "old and rode hard" look. I'll have to live with the jaw marks in the receiver.

The rifle functions pretty well with the "44 Henry Flat". I had Bernie cut me a two cavity mould and it has a huge meplat, bullet weighs about 225gr., two outside lube grooves.

All I need now is a takeoff Henry sight (the one with the gun was bent and loose as hell in the dovetail).

I swapped some stocks around on three different Henrys and they all fit perfect (here's a testament to Uberti's skills and repeatability), so someone outta need this for their "Indian" look!

Dusty
It is a civilian model (no sling swivels).
(I just bought most of a case of 10ga short paper winchester shells, yellow and red boxes Grin)

Mine is a military.  And don't rub it in about the hulls.  Looks like I am doomed to either spending a wad on turned brass or going with (sigh) plastic!  Angry And after I got a neat antique 10 gauge crimping tool.  Cry

Then PM or email me!

I also had a rear sight for my Henry that was way to small.  I had a friend put a bead of weld around the edge of the bottom, all 4 sides.  I then filed it to fit and cold blued it when done.  Been on the Henry now for 5 years and never moved at all.  A cheap easy fix for someone who can weld or has a welder friend.   Grin Grin
