First - Its a real western.
Second - Its a Sam Elliott movie.
Third - Its Sam Elliott playing a Louis L'amour character.

After all of that - I watched it a second time fairly soon after my first viewing.  First time I didn't get the Duncan McAskell character.  The second time I got what Tom Conti was doing with the character and it worked.
Well.... see, if you take your time, you get a more harmonious outcome.

Icebox, that's a pretty good way of putting it! Another good Sam Elliot/Louis L'amour movie is Conagher. The book is also very good.

One of our friends does custom picture frames. She is friends with Buck Taylor and frames a lot of his prints(I've got 6).  Buck has done a print of Sam as Conager. She is a Big Sam Elliot fan. Buck told Sam to contact her to get his print framed. He called har and told her who he was and that he wanted a frame. She was so excited that she couldn't talk so her husband had to take the order over the phone.  The print of Sam as Conager looks great.  Buck has a website where you can peruse all his prints.

Some shops up in Sedona carry Buck's prints.  I've seen the one your talking about, it's very good.

On the movie, I liked McKaskell.  He was good man, a vetern an just tired of killing.  He was trying to teach his son good values.  First time I saw it Sam bothered me, but watching it again, I enjoyed it.  I went back and bought a used copy from one of the local video stores.
