"Old" Blackpowder

This question might have been asked before but I did not find a reference here.
During the research of the Belgian Colts 1860s aka Centaures a German pard recently discovered different lengths of the chambers which can be related to serial numbers and year of production. Today we know that the early pistols from 1959 to ca. 1964 had large, pistols from ca. 1965 to ca. 1968 had mid-size and from then to the end of production in 1973 they had small chambers. With today's BP the small chambers will be filled to the rim with ca. 25 gr of BP plus a felt wad (made from a hat) and ball, no more.
According to the official instructions for use issued by the US importer Centennial Arms Corp. the recommended "dose" of BP was 28 to 30 gr in both their 1962 and 1972 instructions which came with the pistols back then.
While 28 to 30 gr would be OK for the afore mentioned early large chambers there just does not seem to be sufficient space in the chambers of the late small chambers to accommodate that kind of volume.
My question here: given the same weight has the BP of say 1970 production the same volume or density compared to the holy black of today?
Thanks for your help.

Long Johns - here's some old and new powder densities.  I've got some older DuPont in the shed but was to lazy to go and get it, plus it was freezing cold.  As you can see, the differences are not really major.  I'll let you do the percentage ratio variances for the specific granulation's you are interested in

Densities - 100gr volume (vibrated) and then scale weighed:
(Chinese Made)  1FSkirmish - 110.6gr
1F DuPont - 112.9gr (vintage 1971)

2F KIK - 108.0gr
Swiss 1.5 - 114.5gr
2F Swiss - in the shed too
2F Goex Express - 109.8gr
Goex Cartridge - 101.5gr
2F Meteor - 108.3gr (vintage 1973)
2F DuPont - 107.5gr (vintage 1971)

3F KIK - 106.1gr
3F Goex - 103.7gr
3F Schuetzen - 113.2gr
3F Meteor - 110.0 (vintage 1973)
