Turkey Feathers for Quill Pens
« on: January 31, 2009, 04:46:13 AM »
Forty Rod tode me that someone that frequents here is a well known Turkey Farmer (or maybe I am getting my chain yanked).

Anyway I teach 5th grade social studies and I want to make quill pens so the children can see what it was like to write back during colonial times.  Anything I can do to encourage the children to write helps, trust me.

Thanks,

IT, I've got all the Turkey feathers you'll probably ever need,  we raise around 150,000 birds a year,  if you'll pm me your name and address, I'll be happy to  gather up some of the larger feathers and send em to you.
We done it for Dixie,  nothing else

OT, I have a friend who would help gather the feathers, though it might take a while cause he makes a performance out of it when he finds one. ;D

Used to get quill pens when Lakewood Elementary would take us on field trips ta Williamsburg.

I can’t imagine Lakewood turnin’ us loose with open ink bottles………..

Oh man.
When I was in Jr High, you could still buy fountain pens.  They didn't have the suck the ink up thing, but a cartrige ya put in.  I had ta have one an realized that if ya flung the pen, the ink would scatter.  Snobby girl named Tanya liked ta taunt me an ma buddy. She wore spensive sweaters--white ones.  Think ill of me if ya will, but I wrecked several an expensive sweater with a few flings of that pen.  Guess ya could say I was a back shooter in them days ::)
