New Ejector tool on MWNN conversion
« on: December 28, 2008, 07:51:51 PM »
I don't know if Paul Persinger originated this idea, but he is the one who showed Cimarron.  Current production Man With No Name "conversions" now have this two piece rammer that can be used to eject the empties from the cylinder.  I know a stick or part of a key or anything can be used for the purpose, but this idea just seemed cool to me so I took some pics to share.

That is downright neat!!!  Now if there were actually some guns to buy that would be even neater. :'( :'( :'(

Bumping this old thread

Can you still use the rammer to help pry the barrel off?

Yes, the rammer works normally, although I would use only the lower portion of the rammer, even though that gives you less leverage.  If you use the entire length of the rammer it will probably bend the thinner portion of the "ejector".

A method for removing the barrels that I read about here or on the SASS Wire or somewhere years ago works very well, and works with OT's and conversions without rammers:  Take a wood dowel that is just small enough to fit down your barrel, and long enough to stick out of the barrel an inch or so when inserted all the way through the barrel and cylinder to the breech.  Hold on to the end of the barrel with one hand and tap the end of the dowel with a plastic or rubber hammer (something that won't mar the end of the barrel if you hit it).  This forces the frame away from the barrel. And the wooden dowel will not hurt the breech.  Be sure to have the frame of the gun over your lap or a padded bench in case it comes all the way off without you catching it.

Without the ejector in though, you stand the chance of bending the hollow tube...I would think...

Sounds like a lose / lose

But the dowel sounds like it will work

PUK, I really don't know, but the rammers on a lot of the percussion guns do look more colorful than the frames.

Would a loading lever for a regular c/b 1851 fit in the MWNN or would things not line up right?

Sure, if it is an Uberti part.  Before they started using the two piece rammer, it was just a standard rammer.

Now if only Uberti would make these for the "creeping" loading lever on the 1860 Army and 1861 Navy. 8)
A work in progress.
