USFA are now making their own cartridges. Any thoughts?

USFA sent an email to me with the link to it, but I deleted that email when I looked at the prices. Wish I'd kept it now.

Another question... Is the ammo full load or is it more of that light load stuff for cowboy action shooting?

It looks like they are bringing back the United States Cartridge Company.

I saw that, but it is just a picture and not a link. Another pipe dream for USFA?

Not much to tell about the US Ammo Program. I probably have some more tomorrow if I can get hold of Doug Donnelly.
What I have learned is that USFA has the trademark of the old US Cartridge Company and that they are now manufacturing ammo in the following calibers:
32 NEW POLICE
.41 NEW POLICE
357
38 SPECIAL
38-40 WCF
44 RUSSIAN
44 SPECIAL
44-40 WCF
45 SCHOFIELD
45 COLT
45 AUTO
.22 Long Rifle
Most calibers will be ready for shipping to dealers this month.

I just found this on the USFA website.

Rawhide Rio is right. Seems pricey to me also. Maybe they guarantee the ammo to hit the target every time?

Pards,
Maybe a little pricey but not overly so. I don't reload, and normally shoot Winchester Cowboy loads. Gander mountain (I know, I know) is getting $39.95(!) a box now, Midway USA is selling them for $34.95, so the
USFA® TROOPER® 45 COLT 250 GRAIN LEAD; ROUND NOSE FLAT POINT
for $34.99 a box is competitive. I'll try a box or two at that price.

Lash, You are paying way too much for factory ammo. Try ammodirect or georgia arms.

Thanks Don, those are great prices compared to the 'name brands'. Have you shot both of these? Do you prefer one over the other?

I have not shot the Georgia arms much yet. Ammo direct is well known and I have shot alot of their ammo. You cant go wrong with ammo direct for sure. I use to shoot Ultramax factory ammo, but then they raised their prices close to what Winchester sells their for. I switched. Others will tell you about Ammo direct as well.

I don't see how anyone, except a millionaire, could afford to shoot factory ammo in CAS for very long.

I dont have the time or the inclination at this point to reload. Perhaps when I retire, assuming I am still in CAS, I will. In the meantime, I will help ammo makers stay in business.

Second that Don. While not a millionaire by any stretch I would have a hard time squeezing the reloading time into my schedule. In the volume I shoot (I shot exactly six matches this year with my cowboy guns) Getting into reloading just doesn't seem like it would pay.

Actually Lash, reloading can pay for itself in as little as 500 rds. Many believe that they need a top of the line Dillon progressive when a single stage or a cheaper Lee progressive works just fine. I started out on a Lee hand tool kit years ago that was practically Stone Age in comparison. It's also the best way to "roll your own" bonafide BP rounds so you can appreciate these guns as they were meant to be shot & leave the smokeless powder for the Glock shooters.

At $18 for a box of 500, the 22 LR match cartridges are a bargin. CCI generally sells for $5 to $6 for 100 rounds. IF their quality is good, those rounds will sell.
