I have one of those .45-80-500 cartridges (center cartridge) from the Long Range Springfield Rifle

(Click on image to see enlarged)

I sure wish I had one of the actual rifles! :D

And I know a pard (who sometimes appears on here) who was telling me that he has a friend who bought a Springfield Trapdoor in a PAWN SHOP, who after having this (SASS) fellow I know, check it over, it turned out to BE one of those super rare "Long Range" .45-2.4" Trapdoors! :o  (I think it had a different "special" Rear Sight, that was the first clue ;))

When his friend later sold said Trapdoor Rifle, he was able to sell it for many times (like 20X) what he paid for it!  ;D

I've handled an original long range trapdoor (one of 116-163 depending on your source), and yes they do have a different sight as well as a different stock, a detachable pistol grip, the .45/80 chamber and 6 lands and grooves. Last I heard they are worth well over $20K. I have a Pedersoli copy of the long range rifle. It's a very good shooter even though it isn't a very good copy of the long range rifle.
