Another one Chuck made for me. And sort of a neat rig I put together.

Hey Kid, thanks for sharing more great rigs with us. Is that tan color coming from the leather, or is it dyed? ? Either way it looks great. Where do you get your leather? Thanks, JD

JD just coats of oil. Get standard from Wickett@ Craig. Its the bestl they sell.base   I only buy russet and at times I will ad oil  base dyes to do blk or darker browns. I never use straight dyes. Mostly oil with a tint of dye. I use 4-5 oz for linning and when doing inlaid. &-8 oz on outside and10-12 oz on unlined rigs. Useing oil works well. The more u rub it the darker it gets and u can shade it nicely. Takes a lot of time and is hard on the fingers, but at my age what else do I have to do.    :P KT PS all my leather is skirting. , You can probley guess I will run out of ideas before I run out of leather. Now the hardest thing is trying to make rigs that dont look alike. Often when i get done I get rid of it for next to nothing because it looks to much like one I have.

Thanks for that answer KT. I have a Tandy store locally, and Oregon Leather, which stocks Herman Oak. I know Chuck B recommends Wickett and Craig, so I guess I'm going to have to give that a try.

I don't know a whole lot about leather, but I thought skirting had something to do with the weight of the leather. I just looked at the Wickett & Craig web site, but I'm still not clear if Russet is dyed leather or not.

Can you tell me why you use skirting instead of their tooling/holster leather? Do you know what the difference is?

So, to build holsters and gun belts, you use the Russet skirting in 8-10oz ? Where do you get the lighter weight for lining? It looks like they will split it for you, is that what you do?

Thanks KT, like so many others on this forum, you've been a big help to a new guy, JD. PS, I'm not far behind you at 60!

Hi JD They will split it for you . I use 7-8 oz only when lining it with 4-5 oz.otherwise I use a heaver grade for non lined rigs. Give them a call and they will send u a stack of samples in different colors, skirting, belting, harness, bridle and diffferent weights so u can see what your buying.I like working with skirting. Try it , so will u. KT     1 800 826 6379  ext 222  Glen

Those are some fine rigs, Kid. I'm with Tw on the spot placement. Nice work.

I think we need a picture of you wearing all of them at the same time. ;D It would probably be some kind of record.
