Ammo question
« on: July 13, 2008, 01:53:24 PM »
I have a New Vaquero with a 7 1/2 inch barrel, never fired before. The other day I bought a twenty round box of Winchester 225 grain Silvertip HP and I would like to know if anyone has ever used these in the New Vaquero.
A work in progress.

Howdy, Pard,

Shouldn't be a problem.  However, BEFORE shooting cast bullets in the gun after shooting the jacketed (ANY jacketed), be sure to give the barrel a good scrubbing or you will lead like mad!  :( This is true of just about ANY gun or rifle.  The gilding metal jacket material will cause leading if not cleaned out.  The opposite is generally NOT true...shooting jacketed after lead won't bother the gun.  But then clean the barrel if you are going to shoot lead again.
Ride to the sound of the guns, but watch out for bushwhackers! Godspeed to all in harm's way in the defense of Freedom! God Bless America!

Howdy Sixgun Kilrain,
I also bought a box of the Winchester 225gr. Silvertip hollowpoint for my new Ruger Vaquero. I only shot a cylinder through mine and they group at POA. Love my new Ruger Vaquero, it is a special edition from Davidsons. Good shooting!!!

Sixgun,   Much better to shoot those out of a Ruger than an RandD conversion cylinder.    ;)

Kilrain, sir:
I shoot only lead projectiles from my Vaqueros, never had a leading problem!
My reloads crono in the 900 fps range (most of the time anyway) so leading is moot.
