Is you SASS or CAS club NRA sanctioned?
« on: April 02, 2004, 08:56:54 PM »
I'm just asking because here in the NJ/NY area, we can't travel into NY state with our firearms unless we are attending a match that is NRA sanctioned or risk being a "felon".

Some of the best shoots (and clubs) are NOT NRA affiliated or sanctioned (for whatever reason) and this means I can't go to their shoots.  >:(

Was wondering if most CAS/SASS clubs around the country are NRA sanctioned or recognized or whatever.

Knuckles...I'm just takin a wild shot here but if you contacted the NRA and explained the situation, is there a chance they could have a 'blanket' sanction for ALL NY shoots? www.nra.org

You have to be a NRA member to join our club, as the ranges incurance is carried through the NRA and that is one of their requirements.

I'm just surprised that ALL SASS clubs are not NRA affiliated or sanctioned.  It seems it would be mutually beneficial.

Yes to both; You must be an NRA member to join the range membership and since our club is listed in the CC I'm assuming it is SASS recognized.

I think the above approach of getting an NRA Blanket coverage is worth pursuing. Good luck.

Our club is not NRA sanctioned but the parent range club is.  When you join our club, you are also a member of the parent club.  They carry the insurance so it is not beneficial for us to also carry it.

We also encourage our members to join the NRA.  That also helps the parent club since they need a 50% NRA enrollment to qualify for the insurance.

Just an FYI.. we compared Carpenter's insurance to NRA insurance.  Carpenter's was a good bit cheaper.  May not be the same for everyone, but.. there ya go.

Adios,

CAS is but a small part of what our club does. We are a Gold Medal NRA club. Among other things, we are 100% NRA members. Also kids & ladies programs. And lots of other stuff too. Without a doubt the best gun club in Mississippi & one of the best in the southeast.

Just to add to what BHF said...Carpenter is several hundred bucks cheaper than the NRA on club insurance. The NRA used to use Carpenter, but no longer do. I suspect the difference is the kickback the NRA gets from the insurance company. We had Carpenter through the NRA & now use them on our own.
