Davidson's New Vaquero "Limited"
« on: May 08, 2008, 04:55:27 PM »
Howdy, Was wondering if anyone has purchased from Davidson's Guns the new Vaquero "Limited" in .45 colt with beveled cylinder and scaled down frame and cylinder. I imagine it is fairly close to the same size frame as the Colt SAA and copies. Any input will be appreciated. Thanks.

Are you referring to the Montado, by chance?

So far it's features will not fit SASS regs.  But they may be okay for mounted shooting(?).

Howdy Biermeister ;D

After seeing the picture, and checking out the web site , I remember one of the pards here at CAS City had one, and he said he liked it just fine, he was wanting to do some further customizing on it, you might want to check through the Ruger pages here on the Ruger forum or the Gunsmithing forum, I've even got a picture of his gun , I couldn't fined the post but heres the picture of the Davidson Custom

Thanks Ten- Wolves FiveShooter and Mustang Gregg for responding. I purchased one today at my favorite gunstore, Ft. Wallula Firearms in Wallula, Washington. Mike Larson the owner had one in stock with the 5.5" barrel. The action is buttery smooth and the grip reminds of a 51 Navy. Cleaned it up and will shoot it tomorrow.

I believe the Davidson's "Limited Edition" New Vaquero has all the same specs as all other New Vaqueros, with the exception of having a Blue Frame (rather than CC) and it has the white plastic grips.  The blueing is also a deeper/richer blue than other New Vaqueros.

Shot it yesterday with 250 gr. Winchester factory Cowboy loads and my 200 gr. RNFP titegroup loads in .45 S&W. The 250 gr. shot approx. 1" high and the 200 gr. load approx. 1.5-2" low at 10 yards. My handloads had the best group. didn't shoot anymore, got sidetracked when my Grandson came out. Will try to shoot on Monday and see what my .45 Colt and Cowboy Special loads do. Now I have to get back to the barbecue.

Shot the New Vaquero again today with my .45 colt loads with 200 gr. RNFP at 10 yards. They hit about 1-1.5" inches low, about the same as my 200 gr S&W loads. I love all my other CAS revolvers but this one feels so good in the hand and it is so smooth and it is American made! Will load up some 200gr. and heavier bullets in the Cowboy Special cartridge and see how they shoot.   ;D
