I think that HMS uses the 88 and the 5 to test stuff for the teams. The 48 and the 24 benefit from this R&D so they can be more competetive.  Terry Labonte won the Championship in the #5 car when it was the Kellog's car.  I am hoping that we will have another driver win the championship besides JJ or Wonder Wimp.

Vickers won one at Talladega when he wrecked the 8 'n 48. Mears got one thru attrition. Earnhardt won one on mileage in Michigan. Before that I think Nemechek 'n Nadeau won one each. Long, lean times in between for the 25.

Busch wins four in three seasons in the 5. Martin gets five with the 5, apparently good equipment in '09. Does nothing last year. This year he's runnin' out the contract with left-overs. 22nd  in points.

Same period of time the 24 'n 48 combined have won over 80.

Makes ya wonder what he's got in mind for Kahne. Then again if Kahne pulls another jump over the fourth turn fence like he did last weekend he might not be in any mood to push too hard for awhile anyway.

Next year will be interesting with Kasey in the mix. I still think that Junebug will move on from HMS. He needs a change of scenery. He needs to get his confidence back. He is not getting any younger. He has got to stop the skid in his career.

GORDON TALKS ABOUT TRIP TO CONGO

Jeff Gordon went to Congo after the New Hampshire race on a fact-finding mission for the Clinton Global Initiative. Gordon is working on a way to help those in need in the Congo and went to see conditions first hand. “It was an experience that will change me forever,’’ he said.

How so? I asked.

“I feel guilty about buying a bottle of water for two bucks,’’ he said.  “You look at your refrigerator and you go like, “Oh my gosh, there’s so much waste here.’ You just start looking at every aspect of your life and the things you take for granted. I can tell you that the first day back, I just wanted to give my kids the biggest hug ever and my wife.’’

We have people in need right here..........

I donate to "Feed The Children" that feeds kids here in the USA.   Arcey, I belong the Racing Collectibles Club.  They are offering a 78 Ford Torino #96 driven by Dale Sr. to a 10th place finish in the 78 Firecracker 400 in 1/24th scale diecast. That's one of few Cars of his I don't have for my collection.  I'll enjoy the Brickyard 400 this weekend.

Congrats. to another first time winner this year, Paul Menard. His family has close ties to the Brickyard for the INDY 500. Tough luck for Tony Stewart. Fuel mileage played an important part of the race. Junebug finished 16th.

I'll take it. Menard has caught a pile of grief from folks cuz his old man sponsors him. There's a bunch of folks in the game that would be askin', 'Ya want fries with that?' instead of drivin' a stock car if it weren't for parents and/or relatives. Congrats 'n good on 'im.

It will be hot and humid at Pocono this week. Iowa is a good track for the Trucks.  The rumors are hot and heavy that Cousin Carl is set to sign with JGR to drive the #20 next year.  "White Bread" needs to go to the Nationwide Series, he is more competitive in that Series.

NWS is sayin' mostly cloudy 'n a high near 80. Twix now 'n then that'll change.

Rumor I read yestitty is JGR is offerin' Edwards 8 million a year 'n a 10 million dollar signin' bonus. Sounds like a football type deal.

'Nother rumor sez NAPA is leavin' MWR for JGR. MWR sez NAPA is stuck with them thru next season.

If I were JD 'n I got Edwards but didn't get a sponsor for a 4th cup car, I'd release Scott 'n move Logano back to the NNS full time. If I kept Logano at all.

I agree about Lagano. I think he would do a better job than Scott. JGR can afford to field 4 teams, but will they wind up like HMS and 2 teams that are competative and 2 that are not. Good sponsors are hard to come by in today's economy. I don't think that NAPA has gotten it's money's worth with MWR.

I hate that too. I think that the Trucks are the most competitative series, more beatin' and bangin'. Pocono will be interesting for the Trucks.

I just read on the Ford Racing web site that Carl has resigned with Roush. I am not sure that a move to JGR would have been a good move for Carl. I remember a line from "Days of Thunder" where Robert Duvall says, "There"s too many Roosters in the Hen House". I think that would have happened with Carl and Kyle Busch on the same team. I think that might be some of that between Kyle and Denny Hamlin right now.

Read Ford offered Edwards an undisclosed stock deal on top of what Roush offered. Looks like he took the package.

Kenseth said he bought Roush lunch t'other day  Said the boss looked a l'il 'light in the wallet.'

Bad bad part fer Roush is the 99 is only half funded for next year as is the 16. The 17 ain't got nobody right now 'n the 6 is questionable. Part time sponsors for the NNS effort.

"White Bread" might win if he is leading and they call the race. He won his first one on a rain shortened race. A top 5 would be nice for Junebug, considering how hi season has been so far.  I wish we had some of that rain down here in Texas.
