40-60 Brass. Source needed
« on: February 06, 2008, 04:40:09 PM »
Can anyone here help me out?

I have a mate here who has bought a Chaparel copy of the 1876 in 40-60 and is having a hell of a time getting brass. Does anyone know of a source that does this caliber?

Your help would be appreciated

Welcome DaiSloe!

I don't have a 76 in this caliber, so no first hand experience.  I know that Buffalo Arms lists 40-60 brass that is made from reformed 45-70 brass. :)

http://www.buffaloarms.com/browse.cfm/4,262.htm

It says that headspace may be a problem, however. :-\

Ten-X loads the 40-60 in both BP and Smokeless.

Almost forgot about Rocky Mountain Cartridge! :)

Here is the link. http://www.rockymountaincartridge.com/page3.html

Ain't cheap tho..... ;)

FWIW, most folks seem to be having pretty good luck with the reformed 45-70 stuff from BA or making it themselves.

Lee has the dies.
