New scatterguns
« on: January 11, 2008, 11:19:40 PM »
Finally picked up the last....(for now) of the *toys* needed.  Been borrowing dads coachgun previously.

Purchased 2 new to me 12ga shotguns.  the first, a Norinco 97, the other which I am needing a little help with is a 12ga double made by Springfield. It says Model 511, and also is stamped Savage Arms.  Serial number starts with a B.  Wondering if anyone happens to have any info about this gun.  Also trying to figure out how to take it apart for cleaning.  It has a single screw holding the forestock on.  Removing this there is a rod with what seems to be a fairly heavy spring on it between the barrel and the receiver.  The rod appears to be slid into a piece with a slot on the barrel, and looks like the other end has a pin that fits into a recess.  Does this need to be removed (without letting it fly across the room) to take the barrels off for cleaning ?  The gun isn't really  dirty, but would like to give it a once over before using it.  Also found that when opening the action, there is enough pressure it doesn't completely open to load shells.  Its not overly stiff, but hoping a spring or something can be loosened to get the action to open completely. Thanks for your thoughts.
