Need carrier pics
« on: December 31, 2007, 12:36:03 PM »
I am attempting to "De-Chaparralize" my 1876 and in the process I would like to engrave the caliber markings on the bottom of the carrier. Will anyone with an original so marked take some digital pics of the caliber markings and email them to me? My rifle is a 45-75, but I am under the impression that very few of this caliber were so marked. Any caliber designation will do and I can extrapolate from there :D

Thanks in advance!

Hoof Hearted

Here is a photo of an original NWMP 76 carrier that I got off some auction site a while back.

This is a not so good photo of my NWMP repo after engraving.   COG

I hope these will be of some help.  As you can see, they are virtualy identical.  The one on the left is one of my commercial carbines in the 63XXX range and the one on the right is my Mountie carbine in the 44XXX range.  All the other info, I explained in my earlier email.

Happy New Year,
Buck

My original has no caliber markings on barrel or reciever. It's a 45-75.

Harve,
Only in certain serial ranges did the 1876 Winchester rifles in .45-75 WCF have any caliber markings.  Even then, there weren't very many with this marking.   However, except for a few early first models, all of the .45-75 caliber carbines and muskets were marked with caliber.

Adios,
Buck
