Missing Metal Targets
« on: December 15, 2007, 09:31:06 AM »
I went down to the local gun club the other day to do some practicing (which I haven't done in a while) and couldn't help to notice that all the metal targets are gone?  Now, they have been there for some two years now that I have been going there to do a little pinging and... all of a sudden, no targets!

We did have a group come down and started shooting at our range from the Midland/Odessa area so, I kinda wonder if that's where all the targets ran off to?  I ain't been down to the gun shop to check it out yet but, it sure do seem strange that the metal targets been here all this time and now they ain't?

Makes a pard wonder, don't it?  :o

So if there wasn't any targets.. what did you 'ping' at?   :)
And what were you using to 'ping' with ?
And if you did 'ping' did you hit anything?

Well, now that you asked?  :)

I used paper targets that I always carry when I go to the range, a few empty soda and er' beer cans that were in the back of my pickup... and some wood target holders that were left lying around the range.

I tried pinging with my 1858 Stainless Steel Uberti Remmington (Clone) w/conversion cylinder in .45LC, my Ruger Vaquero Birdshead in .45LC, my Western Arms Colt Peacemaker (Clone) in .45LC, my Baikal SxS Exposed Hammers .12 Gauge and my EMF Hartford Saddle Carbine in .45LC.  It's kind of hard to ping wood & paper but... I gave it my best effort.

Valori (the new Light of my Life) and I went to the range again the other day and still no metal targets.  I guess I am going to have to make a trip down to the local gun club and see what's up!

Anywho, it was a great time and she is looking forward to the next range trip.  BTW, her favorite was the SxS, lol.  :D

Missing metal targets, eh?  I've been called for missing metal targets.  Just have to slow down a bit, and aim more carefully!  Oh! Wait a minute!  You mean the targets were missing!  ;) ;D

At my local gun club people would come in and shoot up the metal targets intended for pistol with high power rifle ammo, shooting them up like Swiss cheese, so they have taken those down.  At our cowboy range we keep most of the metal targets locked up except for when we're having a match, theft and vandalism have taken a toll on them.

Howdy!

Tom, that is unfortunately true and what has happened at WAY TOO MANY ranges.  Some people have no regard for other folks' property.  If their brains were gunpowder, they wouldn't have enough to blow their nose!!!  >:(

Unless there is a match of some type going on, our range has a locked gate that every dues paying member gets a key for.  We have one cowboy stage kept up between matches, but there are still some people that either use jacketed ammo, or fire high powered rifles at our steel targets.  It doesn't happen often, but it doesn't take much of the wrong kind of bullit hitting the target to ruin it.
