Hard rubber grips for an Uberti Schofield?
« on: December 14, 2007, 04:54:02 PM »
I have an Uberti Schofield Wells Fargo that I would like to put black hard rubber grips on.  I can find checkered faux ivory and buffalo horn but not rubber.  Is there another vintage S&W revolver that used the same grip panel that I could put on my Schofield?  I don't mind a little hand fitting but I need a suitable sized donor grip to start with.  Ideas?

Thanks for the heads up.  I'll give these folks a try and see what they have to offer.  I can deal with some trimming if they have some other grip that's too large for the Schofield but can be trimmed to fit.  If I have any luck I''ll report back to the forum.

Check with Dixie Gun Works.

This is sage advice.  Vintage Gun Grips are great - I have used them more than once on a restoration project.  They are excellent quality.  But be careful here on this particular gun.  The Schofield/Wells Fargo model Uberti is producing is not based on the Smith and Wesson #3, and the frames have been enlarged a bit to account for the calibers offered.  The #3 grip frame is slimmer than that of the Schofield.  Ask Vintage for specific dimensions before spending your money.  If these are truly replacements for the the #3, then you will not be able to use them on your Uberti unless it is the Russian model.  Already went down that road with my 5 inch 44-40 break top from Uberti.

Checked with Dixie previously (sent them a tracing of the grips) and Vintage Gun Grips (today) but it's a no go at both places.  As far as I can tell the only checkered grip options are either faux ivory or faux buffalo horn.

How about the second grip down on this page (it's available in black):
