'Wiggle' in Uberti NMR
« on: December 14, 2007, 02:31:06 PM »
Hi All -
I was doing a thurough cleaning of my Uberti New Model Russian (44R), and I noticed a slight 'wiggle' when the gun is latched. It seems to be very slight, side-to side if I hold the barrel and the grip; The barrel and cylinder remain quite nicely aligned, but the alignment with the grip part of the frame can shift ever so slightly.  This appears to be at the main pivot, but the pivot screw and such appear very tight.

The gun is only a year old, and I've put maybe 400 rounds through it, all cowboy loads.

1) Is this an issue? :-[
2) If I should take it to a gunsmith, who would you recommend? :(

Thanks

Try tightening the barrel latch screw (on the side of the topstrap in front of the rear sight) before you do anything. If it works loose NMRs will behave as you describe.

Thanks Irish Dave
I tightened the barrel latch screw up, and it helped (it was loose - probably from the recent cleaning).
It still wiggles just a tiny bit.  I'm no machinist, but it sure seems like there is the tiniest gap down where the main hinge is.  If you're just holding the pistol, it doesn't seem to move, but if you hold the barrel and the grip, you can feel it.

Ideas welcome.  Thanks

I have a pair of NMRs and the main pivot screw can use an occasional tightening.
