Wow.  The machining on the sample is fantastic.  I wonder if they'll ever get it into volume production and if anyone on this side of the pond will be a distributor?

I found that same site about a week ago.  Great photos.  It reads as if that is an Uberti sample.  Do you guys get the same impression?

No, I think it's been "converted" by Hege because if you look at the photo third from the left on the bottom you'll see
"Colt's Patent" stamped on the frame. Uberti would never do that.

If I read it right, it sounds like it is a one off piece made by Hege.

According to the HEGE boss these Thuer conversions are built by a German gun smith for HEGE, using special production Uberti parts. Apart from providing these special parts Uberti is not involved in the project.
The pics were taken by Meggi, Dr. G's girlfriend. She deserves that credit.
The HEGE Thuer pistols are proof tested in line with German law, but not guaranteed to function with the Thuer ammo...
They come currently only cased. These Thuers are made to order only, no full scale production is anticipated because the market is so limited. If you want one the manufacturing leadtime is currently approx. 9 months.

I'm considering going for it but will have to off several of my beloved possesions to pay for one. Also ..is it pay in full up front and wait or half down half for delivery? How does the ordering process work? Thanks!

Howdy pards - Seth Hawkins the price quoted does include the gun because a factory Uberti will not do. HEGE is having major parts specially made to their specs in Gardone to have them incorporated into the HEGE Thuer. The Thuers are built by an external gun smith for HEGE.
Why do you think the Army on Meggi's pics looks like a 2nd gen Colt? Ubertis over here come with the Colt patent marks, see attached pic of my RM.
Capt. Willard - If you are interested to get one of these Thuers get in touch with Dr. Waldemar Gorzawski, boss of HEGE, at info@hege-arms.com. phone is +49-7575-2872, fax +49-7575-4281. Waldemar Gorzawski has a good command of English. So, please go ahed write or talk to him in English and ask him your questions regarding payment modalities etc.
I suggest you check with your BATF and NRA regarding importation of these pistols. It might require an import agent like ETSS on your side of the pond. This agent will  also ask for his share of the booty. I don't know about import taxes for these pistols in the USA.
You may also want to consider asking Karl Nedbal of Nedbal GmbH in Austria (www.nedbal.at; info@nedbal.at) for a quote of a Thuer. Karl is a gifted master gun smith in Austria who plays in the "Champion League of Conversion Artists". There are other threads in this forum with pics of his work. He did not only a quite a number of of different Colt and Remington conversions including the Thuer, he is also a Colt collector and is checking his conversions against the real thing. You may have heard of him, he is the guy that does the Luger in .45 ACP in small scale production from scratch.

LJW, you misunderstood me. I mean the EXACT words "Colt's Patent" & not the patent dates themselves. Colt is VERY protective of this marking. It is not illegal to mark a gun as such (by an aftermarket gunsmith) but it gets VERY complicated when they try to sell it and Colt is legendary for suing someone or some company.  Wink

Seth Hawkins and other pards: barrel marking on current production Ubertis in Germany is
HEGE-UBERTI (R)    A. UBERTI-ITALY see pic.
When I looked at the Thuer in the case my first thought was also 2nd gen Colt Army but Dr. G. of HEGE advises it is Uberti.

As to price..expensive yes but...add it up.... wooden case, extra standard percusion cylander, new 1860 Army thuer pistol with thuer cylander, gunsmithing, specialized tools, small production etc....

It's high but I think its almost fair. I have to decide if I can part with some of my babies to be able to do it though!

Boy, I just have to put in my $.02

I don't mind one bit looking at a good quality firearm and the craftmanship that went into this one is outstanding.

The price is out of my league... and for a gun I can only shoot outdoors with ammo that is difficult if not impossible to get commercially.

Its just not a leap I could do.

But, it sure was nice to look...

Howdy pards and regarding functionality of the Thuer: According to Dr. G. HEGE will not guarantee function for obvious reasons. The couple they made and sold so far might have been fired by their new owners. But they were ordered in the first place by pards intrigued by the technical or collector's aspect of these guns. There is another thread here on this forum that addresses the challanges to get a Thuer, original and replica, going reliably.
I will go back to Dr. G to inquire about proof testing of the pistols and availablility of components. I know he is already working on increasing the manufacturing output. I also suggest to him to register himself here that you have a direct communication. He is a nice and knowledgable pard.
And I also want to know if the pistol will be available in a plane jane version without the case, etc.
