Just got through working with some of my pictures so I'll post some of the so those who like to wade in the mud see what they missed out on.
Sorry the pictures ain't better, it was a dark and damp day.
This one was about 10 am when I had just got the fire started, cobs and coal oil help.
Looking the other direction toward the road.
I ended up cheating a bit with the fire, had trouble even getting matches to stay lit, so I used some of those for tinder and cheated a bit.
After a few minutes the fire started real good.
I learned some things about working on cold wet ground yesterday, but I'm going to do a seperate post about that later.
By the time I got the fire going I had already built up a bit of mud.
A couple shots of the gear all set out ready to use and the large cob pile I put a big dent in.
By 3 pm I had 9 ovens load of food going.
We were shooting to eat at 5 pm and at 4:55 we started hauling the ovens to the barn since we had decided to eat there out of the wind.
The first picture is pot roast and a chicken and rice dish.
The next one is the bread, it was so humid I never got the dough the way I wanted, so instead of my usual "dinner rolls" it was like a large drop biscuit and we just broke it up. Yes I burnt it a bit on top, when it was ready to bake I was a few minutes short on coals so when it baked it rose enough to touch the top of the lid, plus I had a lot of cobs in the fire and they burn hotter and faster than wood, I don't get these a lot to use so it takes some getting used to.
The next two are peach cobbler, I used a yeast crust on it also and had a bit of the same problem, plus ther was a lot of brown sugar on top of the crust.
A shot of our serving line.
And a couple of folks eating.
