Being a rather large person that I am, period clothing to fit me is a BIG problem.  Military uniforms are out of the question. Jeans and overalls come in big enough sizes for me as well as long sleeve shirts.  I will have to be a semi-civilian. I will do the best that I can to represent the Great State of Texas and not look too squirrely at the Muster this Fall.

...... I will have to be a semi-civilian. I will do the best that I can to represent the Great State of Texas ......

Well, the 19th century Texas Rangers were definitely a quasi-military, but non-uniformed, force.  Seems that would be a "natural" for you, Sir!

Frontier Battalion, Company F, 1882 .....
Rattlesnake Jack Robson, Scout, Rocky Mountain Rangers, North West Canada, 1885
Major John M. Robson, Royal Scots of Canada, 1883-1901
Sgt. John Robson, Queen's Own Rifles of Canada, 1885
Bvt. Col, Commanding International Dept. and Div.  of Canada, Grand Army of the Frontier

There were many civilian auxilliaries in the form of: Teamsters; Hunters for meat; Woodcutters; Sutlers or Post Traders; Indian Agents; Indian Interpretor; Missionary; News Correspondant; or perhaps, Archeologist; Geologist; Surveyor.  .  .   etc.

You'll fit right in, TL. Besides, your participation is more important than the cut of your clothes.

The engraver called yesterday and said the medals are finally ready. I'll pick them up today.

We won't have to wait on the '08 medals. They're ready too.

While the GAF's primary focus is on the Victorian-era military, we also include those quasi or paramilitary forces that provided security on the frontier such as the Texas Rangers, Canadian "Mounties", and local militia forces.  Some, if not most, of these units didn't have a uniform - or even a recognizable insignia of some kind and the men just used whatever clothing, gear and firearms they had.  And, as pointed out by River City John, there were a large number of civilian auxilleries in support of the military.

As a reminder, the GAF does not require anyone to wear a uniform (except for the Battle Rifle competitions), though we highly encourage it.  That said, I suspect that probably 90% or better of our membership does perfer to shoot in CAS-style competitions in uniform.

With the exceptions of the above named persons and Bristow Kid's (whose medal got messed up at the engraving and has had to have another medal ordered) all of the medals are in their addressed envelopes and await the opening of the post office tomorrow to be mailed.

These are excellent!

If you don't get the addresses as requested, perhaps we'll be lucky and see them at the Muster this year.
