If we are talking a revolver here, then YES.  OM stands for original black powder model I assume. The ones made for the army were originally loaded with 45 colt, but the army quickly found out that 45 Schofeld would be cheaper to load and so they were issued as standard ammo later on after Custer I believe.  I just bought 500 rounds of 45 Schofeld to shoot in matches.  Regards.  Deadeye.

The reason the army issued 45 schofield cartridges was logistical. Some units were equiped with Schfields and some with 1873 model Ps. I twas more economical and simplified the logistical system to issue the shorter ctg that could be used in both weapons.

For the most part, I haven't seen a 45 Colt pistol that wouldn't shoot a Schofield unless it just won't fit in the cylinder (I have a couple conversion cylinders that won't accept them). They should work fine. I find the accuracy for CAS better with the shorter cases because the amount of powder is proportionately more in the case.
