I'm a thinkin people are a wonderin - "why are them thar darkside shooters having so much more fun?"
Our smiles are a bit wider, some of us are a bit loud (what shy, quiet and reserved little me:)!!
Flatboat has been asking questions for some time and he got his guns worked on by LCR - so they won't hang up. I think without hang-ups Flatboat will shoot them ROA's routinely.
Heck my BP bug is so bad I have loaded up 32sw long with BP for playing around with my 1895 Russian Nagants.
Wahoooooooooo
Yehawwwwwwww, I may just have to get some more badges........
If you know of VA BP shooters who would have fun with it - let me know. I'll take care of the rest.

Hello the fire,
I guess I have sat out long enough, I can only milk getting married for so long.
I hope to get out to either Black Creek this month (should be able to do March as well) or the Pungo shoot next month. I've got my revolvers and Henry set up but I am still working on the shotgun, those 10 gauge brass shells are expensive at $6.50 each! Anyhow I just wanted to say howdy again and that I am off for Thunder in the Brush this year so I plan on shooting that as well if they'll let me in!

Thanks Sod Buster, I look forward to getting back on the horse! My better half has told me I can finishing buying my 10 guage brass shells with the tax return money so I should be set up to shoot Frontiersman at Thunder in the Brush. I have thought about ordering a couple of boxes of shells loaded wtih BP from Republic Metallic Cartridge Co.
Quote
Price: 26.84 USD #8 "MIGHTY TEN" 10 Gauge 2-7/8" Black Powder Shotshells (BOX OF 25) Hard to find 2-7/8" black powder shotshells for the Sportsman featuring new high brass Federal plastic hulls, traditional Biodegradable wad columns (NO MORE MELTED PLASTIC!) 4-1/4 Drams Swiss Black Powder, 1-1/4 oz. #8 lead shot, roll crimp.
I figure two boxes will pretty much get me through two matches, probably March and April in Black Creek. I just worry that they might be loaded a bit "hot" for CAS, what do you think?

I'm not an expert on 10ga but I think you will be ok. The Republic cartridges are used by CAS shooters with good results. You might need more than two boxes though. Black Creek's annual shoot sometimes has a scenario with 14-17 shotgun targets!
You're barrel will get hot.

LR,
Rocky Mountain Cartridge quoted me $65.00 for 10 shells. I figure I need at least 50-60 shells to be safe (probably more figuring some will get stepped on) so theres $325 to $390 not counting shipping. Thier shot shell reloading kit is another $65 so I figure I'll ending up dropping $500
to get shooting! That is just for the local matches, a large match might use more but I figure I'll add another 10 shells a month until I get a silly number of them.
I am open to suggestions of other suppliers of 10 gauge brass shells, I haven't been able to find any. Of course I could buy a 12 gauge and all the fixins for about the same as the 10 gauge reloading setup, but then what would I do with the 10 gauge?

You can always use plastic 10ga shells fer most of yur shootin. Thye got ta be cheaper than brass ones and a heck of alot easier to reload.

Good ta see ya again, Myles.
Ya know, do what ya want but I’d think hard on MM’s werds. That’s a lot of money for style points.

Jeemanee Miles!!!!
I thought $45 for 25 12ga was a bit much. I do like the style points but there sure does come a point where it just may not be worth it.
Course ifn ya kin aford it, I say go fur it!

Pard I love my 12 guage style points but I got my shells over a a2 year period and still shot some paper and plastic BP shells as I slowly got my herd of brass shells.
Once you get them and have the little hand kit - it is easier and cheaper going with brass. But again I bought my brass over a 2 year period - about 50 shells at a time.
I know a pard who shoots 10 guage federal hulls and they hold up nice. His trick - still use the fiber wads, so the inside of the barrels stay nice and slick instead of getting the plastic wad stuff all on the inside of them barrels.

I appreciate all the thoughts on using plastic shells. Right now I don't have anywhere to set up a reloading press and won't until we buy a house. I'm currently using a Lyman 310 and Lee handpress for my cartridge needs. I guess I can always get a Mec JR, mount it on a hunk of plywood and C-clamp it to the kitchen table. We'll see. right now I'm just leaning toward picking up a cheap 12 gauge and putting the 10 gauge on the back burner.
I don't know if I'll shoot Saturday but I plan on coming to the match at KC's Corral to watch/help out. I hope to see some of you there.

Miles it's good yur still around - I wus startin to wunder 'bout ya! It's a shame life gets in tha way of shootin', but good ta see yur back! Ya know, if'n ya ask a pard to reload fer ya (you furnish the hulls, powder, wads, shot and anything else I can't recall at this time) someone would probably load it up fer ya.
I'd stay away from Wildcat - he don't put no powder in his loads (
) - only kiddin Cuz!!
MM and I shoot plastic wads and we don't have no problems cleanin' plastic out of the tubes........ ain't that whut moose milk and the Chronicle are fer? We've even waited until the next day and still had no problems. Ballistol is a real GOOD thing........
Go with whut you can afford fer now - you'll still have more fun than those who shoot that heathen powder!
