Wyatt Earps Birthplace & Boyhood Home, For Sale on E-bay
« on: July 23, 2007, 02:40:37 PM »
Our group does an re-enactment every year at this place.
Looks like this might be the last year.
Wish I had the money to buy it.
The gunfight this year will be held on August 4th.
We could use a few more voulunteers if you happen be in the area that weekend.

No sir, this is for real.
I am currently high bidder although I am sure my max bid is far lower than their reserve price.

My current avatar was taken at this place during one of our reenactments

I've visited there, too. You can fly into the uh, how should I say, small Monmouth airport (length: 2,899 ft.) which is near a golf course. With 14 days left on the auction, it might be interesting if the bidding activity increases...

Well.....I'm out. Current bid is $25,500. (I was bidder 1)
My max bid was $25,000. I'm thinkin the owners are lookin for a lot more than this property will bring on E-bay.

"You can fly into the uh, how should I say, small Monmouth airport (length: 2,899 ft.) which is near a golf course"

That would be the oldest continuously operated airport in the state of IL.

This property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and State of Illinois Historical Landmarks Survey.

Features of this historic home include the following:

Original two-story house, built ca. 1841, which now operates as a Historic House Museum, encompassing 803 sq. ft. and includes a parlor, kitchen, two bedrooms, stone half-cellar with rear stairway exit, attic, original doors, hardware, and hardwood floors.

One-story wing addition, built ca. 1868, now houses an apartment, encompassing 723 sq. ft., and includes a living room, dining area with bay window and kitchen, bedroom, bath, and enclosed rear porch with built-in storage.  It is a front-gable home and wing with Greek Revival elements, single garage, and large backyard.

Adjoining corner lot features a corral with board fence on four sides, split-rail front gate, replica buildings of Tombstone, AZ (sheriff’s office, Fly’s Boarding House, Harwood House, and the O.K. Corral).  This corner lot is used periodically throughout the year for re-enactments.

The Museum is owned and operated by an International Board of Trustees and a National Advisory Council for the original two-story home.

*******

Given all of this - I'd say that they're interested in a lot more than the current bids, and that it won't sell on eBay.

Vaya,

Scouts Out!

Wish that I could purchase it myownself. Likely it should go to some one who can best care for it the way it deserves to be cared for.
Wyatt is my 4th Great Cousin by Marriage.
Just hope this property can go to someone willing to preserve its history.
