250 -260 gr. in 45 Colt for handloads?
« on: July 15, 2007, 02:02:24 PM »
Recommend 45 Colt - 250 - 260 gr. bullets that are in fairly steady supply that might not be top end on price per 1,000 for reloading?

It's about time for me to start working on some new loads, and I had a bunch of 230 gr. that I was shooting that were originally for ACP.

Thanks, for any suggestions.

If I were you I would look for a local supplier or distributor.  Shippping on 1000 250 gr or 260 gr bullets is gonna be a bear. :)

I would buy a Lee 2 cavity mould and get wheel weights to cast them up myself.  But Oregon Trail makes a nice 250 grainer and so does bullet Meister.  Sometimes you can catch a sale on Midway.

I have been using oregon trail for all my bullets, but just tryed Royal Bullets from Evansville Indiana they have an ad in the chronical

Oregon trail and Royal both ship USPS and the fee is only 8.95 for the package. I have been reloading 2000 45 rnfp for myself and 3000 38's for my wife's guns. the folks at Royal are CAS shooters themselves and provide a great product at a good price, you can get 1000 250grn rnfp for 80.00 plus the 8.95 shipping. I will be ordering from royal again as soon as I make all of these go bang/clang (or ::) sometimes bang/whoosh)

Try emailing for a price list at this address dewy07@wildblue.net.  I've had good luck with him and his prices are good too.

If you insist on mail order then Beanie has some great bullets.  I'm not sure how they compare price wise though.

Thanks for the responses, there's probably lots of folks that prefer commercial off-the-shelf ammo.

I think that you will find that most load their own for Cowboy Shooting.

I have actually found just the opposite, very few prefer commercial for cowboy shooting.

Yup, I have to agree with Arcey an Sleep, The only time you'll find me shooting factory ammo at a CAS match is if I won it as a door prize, otherwise, It's my own home rolled ammo.

Lee has 6 cavity molds too , 3 times more bullets in almost the same time .  That is the way to fly !   :-)

     I am casting 255 & 200 grain Lee RNFP bullets .  The 255's work great in .45 LC , sized to .454" .  Both wheel & lever gun .  With Unique .

Hope to try the 200's soon , in both LC & ACP .

God bless
Wyr
