Summertime at the S.D. Butcher farm near Gates, Custer County, Nebraska.

1899

The photograph was taken at the artificial lakes on the S.D. Butcher farm near Gates bridge on the north side of the Middle Loup river. These lakes formed from the Butcher & Griebel irrigation ditch.

The pistol looks small for the holster........Wet molding of gun leather is not just a "modern" method - again see Packing Iron for several examples, including those worn by Ed Schieffelin, the founder of Tombstone, his pair of holsters are heavily molded


Yeah I've seen a few in photos, I forgot about the one in PI.  That is another one of those, "they didn't do that back then" I hear about from time to time.  So many of the things folks post and tell me fit in the, "When the legand becomes fact, print the legand." Wink
