Sheriff office gun rack
« on: March 26, 2007, 10:57:01 AM »
Hey folks
I’m lookin’ for a set of plans or pictures of a vertical, wall mount, western style rifle rack.  The kind you always see behind the sheriff’s desk. Any help would be appreciated.  The searches I have done have come up a little short on the old west wooden racks.

I know the local gun dealer has one. I'll ask him about it.

You'll recall that on High Chaparral, and Bonanza, there were similar gun racks, the one on Bonanza was built into the wall just as you went up the stairs.  High Chaparrals was toward the door as you walked out.  BIG VALLEY however, had a Gun Room, where the pool Table was, and had rifles and pistols both along the wall.

I blame these shows for my current affliction of needing enough guns to fill a GUN ROOM.. :)

Thanks Slim

I found that site, but it won't expand the pictures for a better view.  I just need some ideas, as I'm planning on building one for my eclectic (combination aircraft/cowboy) den.
I guess I watched Sky King too much when I was a kid.

The following is what the local gun dealer had to say.
"My brother made the 2 in the shop.  Special crackel paint and all.  I will try to empty one and take a picture of it and eMail it to you."

I like the pistol rack....Hope you don't mind me stealing the ideal........  Russ T., I made one for my "cave" it's just pine and didn't put any plywood on for a back.   I use it so when I come in from a match I can line the guns  up there for service or cleaning.  It's real handy.  However like my gunsafe it runs out of room fast.   I wish I had a room I big enough to call a gun room, I might even hang a saddle or two in it.

Probably the finished rack.  I tend to do the layout in my head and mark it straight to the wood.
Drives my wife up a wall when I say I'm building something, and she asks where the plans are, and I just point to my head.

This is the desk in the eclectic den.  Built it without plans, and almost made it too big to get into the house.

I’ll try and get pictures as I layout the design on the wood.

I was just looking at the ones in Rio Bravo and El Dorado. The Rio Bravo one is pretty much like Wild Mike's design. The El Dorado is similar but the tops of the side boards (E) are not rounded.
