Period clothing
« on: November 04, 2004, 12:07:17 PM »
I am thinking about sewing some period clothes to save money. Last night at Wallyworld, I found some patterns that I thought might work. What do y'all think?

I send folks to those patterns and other in the Simplicity catalog all the time, they are good ones and inexpensive.  I get the JoAnn's Fabric store cataloges and when the have their 99 cent pattern sales I stock up and buy 3 or 4 of things I like in case they discontiue it like McCalls did with their wonderful shirt pattern a few years ago, course I got a couple unopened ones for when the ones I use wear out. ;D  That is a wonderful hat Gophegrease made us each one this spring.

Great, 'cuz I bought them last night. Wallyworld doesn't have a very good selection of fabric for these patterns. Is JoAnn's were you get fabric from? Do they have a good selection? There is a store in Appleton which is about 20 miles from verk.

Slim, my wife buys a lot of fabric at both Wallyworld and Joann fabrics.  If you go to Joann Fabrics be sure to sign up for their catalogs.  They have good discounts from time to time and you can stock up.

I just bought Joan a new White quilter's machine and with the catalog coupon it was about $125 off.

Very period correct, I can show you swatches of a similar material in an order book for suits, dated in the 1880's at the NSHS.  Would not be my choice but a very nice outfit. ;D ;D

I would think mine would look better hangin' in some tepee and I ain't worried.   ;D ;D

Course I keep and eye out fer such things. ;D

Besides that most cowboys who saw an Indian was either when they took the toll fer crossin' the reservation with the herd or he was ropin' besides them. ;D

But now that I think of it I better watch me beuteefool locks. ;D ;D
