'Period' Frames for glasses?
« on: March 11, 2007, 04:34:30 PM »
Anyone know of a good source for getting period frames for glasses?  If I were to try and shoot without my glasses, I'd have better luck hitting the broadside of a barn at further than 10ft away...

When I did Civil War reenacting, I know many guys had repro frames, but back then I didn't need glasses, so I never paid much attention...

Anyway, any advice is appreciated!

For shooting CAS, the period frames don't offer as much protection as you need, ie: size of lense and side shields. Use the periods for the dress up dinner, get yourself a set of safety type glasses that look somewhat period and be safe. Think you can find period type frames through River Junction Trading Co. or Wild West Mercantile................Buck 8) ::) ;)
I might be slow, but I'm mostly accurate.....

Wear big lenes when sooting.  As for ren-acting and such then wear period frames.  I have 2 pairs of gold filled frames, got them from a guy I know, problem, out of over 300 pairs only 2 were wide enough for my face.  sometime I need to get lenses in one of them.  For everyday wear, check yer eye-ball place for what they have, these are very close to period and you need to get closer than I want folks to tell and most can't at that.

They look like blued steel but are titanium and don't break, bend or corrode, a problem with most glasses, between workin' around hot fires and my corrosive personality I'm hard on glesses.  These came from Wal-Mart and with the glass lenes I demand they were around $150 with the eye exam.

See James Townsend & Son for period frames http://jas-townsend.com/index.php?cPath=46 - wear safety glasses over them.
