A real piece of history!
« on: February 11, 2007, 09:36:07 PM »
I know that most of y'all are into the Uberti guns... and no wonder, finding a real Henry is tough and buying one requires quite the bankroll.
We recently acquired a real, rare Henry.  Engraved by Sam Hoggson, made in 1866.
Here are a few photos.

That Henry is just too cool.  DROOL! DROOL!!  I want one.  Unfortunately I can't afford the real deal.  So I will have to settle for the Uberti made one I bought after Christmas.

That's a piece of Art ;D and certainly would like to hear any more details about your Henry if possible. Not sure how you would display such a rifle. Have seen several Henries displayed under locked glass in "Collectors Firearms" and in museums, but have to have pretty good security. This Henry is nicer than the shooters I've seen.

I do not own this rifle... I am not allowed to post a direct link or discuss sales terms.
I did get to take the photos and wanted to share them.

Howdy! I'm always looking at the going prices for antique guns and Henry's are among the most expensive investments. The prices on them continue to increase, I was just at a collector show this past weekend and the prices for a Henry in good shape were around $35,000.00 to $45,000.00 and these were not engraved either. I also look on the internet gun auction sites & internet dealers, the least expensive was, what the seller called a poor man's Henry. This Henry was in working condition but in very rough shape and the asking price for it was $10,000.00. Another dealer's web site had a rare iron framed Henry and the asking price was $95,000.00  :o  So all I can say is unless my income increases by alot or I hit the lottery, I will not be owning a Henry in this lifetime or the next but it's a nice dream. And I'd buy it if I could.  Worth every penny.

Some Brasso and elbow grease, have it converted to 45 Colt, refinish the stock .... a dream come true !!  :o  :o  :o

Frankly, I think we would all like to have that Henry.  That is one sweet rifle.  The catch of course is, it is well into the five figure range. :-[  Or at least I would expect so.  Why is it all the really neat toys are so expensive?

I'v always maintained I'd never own a gun I couldn't take out and play with.  Had I the disposable spendable however, I could make and exception!!!

Coffinmaker,

I tend to agree with you.  Any firearm I buy I buy to shoot it.  What's the point otherwise?  That being said, I think I could make an exception in the case of that Henry.  That rifle is just too cool.  Actually I think I could make an exception for one those Volcanics too.

Wow , what a beauty.
Have you guys noticed the s/n 12625!
The highest serial number for a Henry rifle in the 'traditional' range is 12832,yet several examples of standard Henry rifles have been reported with higher serial numbers, including into the 14000range( no.14262), see R.L.Wilson Winchester....,page17.

Here is a pic from the'very small' Frontsight.

It is a little bit rounded as the early style. The later style had a squared back.

Interesting picture of that front sight.

You know, if I'm not careful I'll end up learning something about Henry rifles. ;D

Wild Ben, I saw the same 10,000 rifle with the "hawk scars" in the ejection port. Amazing it can cost that much...
