Case Length .44 Russ;          .97"             Rim is .515 for .44 Russ/Spl/Mag

"           "       . 44 Colt          1.10"            BUT!  the rim is narrowed to .483 as wider rims wouldn't fit in Orig. Richards cylinders, nor in  New Army Rems.  The bullet in ORIGINAL conversions is a heeled .450 dia.  NEW specs are the same .429 as the others.

Case length  .44 Special    1.16"

  "          "        .44 RemMag   1.29"

About your question about what fits what, I'll leave for others.  I've heard of a .44 universal that has the length of the Russian, and the rim of the Colt.  The bullet depends on your barrel diameter.

A cowboy friend of mine has an Uberti OT in .44 Colt and shoots BP .44 Russian out of it. I have a pair of Uberti Colt SAA's and a Henry in .44 Special and shoot smokeless .44 Colt out of them. Works just fine.
