Gemmer Trapdoor Hawken (new photos 11-25-06)
« on: November 18, 2006, 09:03:22 AM »
I'm building a Gemmer style trapdoor Hawken in 45/70.  Do I qualify to be in this forum?  I have taken photos every step of the way for a building history. If any one is interested you can email me at

Huummmmmm, that's pretty interesting. Sounds like something I'de like to try on my old T/C Hawken .45 cal. that I haven't shot in over 26 odd years !!!

   Greetings!

That will be one beautiful rifle! I've seen photos and drawings of Gemmer-enhanced rifles, and they all have a no-nonsense esthetic to them. I'd sure like to have my ArmiSport Spencer converted into a Gemmer Spencer...! I'm a BIG "Trapdoor" Fan, too!
I wonder how many others feel the same? Keep us posted!

               Be Well!

I always wanted Hawkenized / Gemmerized rifles: Trapdoor, Spencer, Sharps, and a rolling block.  Just something about that Hawken look that draws me.

I've seen originals of the TD and Spencer, and pics of the other two.  Hey, how about a Ballard #5?  It's close anyway.

Looking forward to seeing the final results.

I had my Pedersoli Sharps, .45-70 Gemmerized by Sapergia Taylor in Prince George,  Cost much CAD but worth every Loonie!  Kept the action and barrel, everything else is Hawken, including a fiddleback maple stock & pewter capped forend.  I made a leather boot to temper the poke by the buttplate horns.

Jim;  No picture yet.  I'm short of technology just now, but I WILL work on it.
