Grin Hi all, I truly love the historical aspects of CAS and the late 1800's. One thing I've always liked was finding period antiques to use. Match safes, cheroot cutters, etc.
One real fascination is with pocket watches and their accoutrements. I collect them and wear them.
I found a teriffic site (UK) with hundreds of photo's of Victorian era ladies and gentlemen. Of particular interest was the accoutrements they wore to say nothing of the styles which most likely were in evidence here in the USA. I thought I'd share it with those who might be interested. Of particular note to me were the ladies wearing pocket watches and chains who had watch pockeys in their dresses.

Enough blabber, here ya go. Hope some of you enjoy it.

All America lies at the end of the wilderness road, and our past is not a dead past, but still lives in us. Our forefathers had civilization inside themselves, the wild outside. We live in the civilization they created, but within us the wilderness still lingers. What they dreamed, we live, and what they lived, we dream. -- T.K. Whipple

I happen to collect them myself, and my earlier 'Notes' cover a few of them.

For a more 'local' reading on matchsafes - get a copy of:

'Pocket Matchsafes - Reflections of Life and Art, 1840 - 1920' - by Sanders and Sanders - ISBN: 0-7643-0324-4

Alas - there doesn't seem to be much available on Watch Fobs, per se.

I have a copy (two, actually) of:  'Collecting Watch Fobs' - by Kaduck - but that's pretty much 'it' for what's seen.

It's sort of a case of 'gather the information where you find it' - and maybe additional research will expand the knowledge base.

Thanks for the link.

Vaya,

Scouts Out!

Thank you for this link, what a wonderful source of photographs! I've found two other sites that may be of interest to those appreciative of this era as well- they are: http://www.bcvc.net/hats/index.htm, (regarding Victorian Hat ettiqute) and  http://www.lahacal.org/gentleman/index.html, which is a Victorian Gentlemans page.
