I was just surfing through the Buffalo Arms site, looking at the brass offerings, and I found something that they sell called"44 Henry Centerfire for R & D conversions".
Why does this exist? I know that there was such a thing, but I don't know of any R & D conversion applications where a 44 cal cartridge is used, and if there were, wouldn't it just be 44 spl, colt , ot russian nowadays??

The Buffalo part # is 44HENCFRD   if you want to take a look.

Thanks

It's based on a .41 Magnum case.  Wink

R&D produced an Open Top that used the Modern version of the 44 Henry centerfire/44 American/44 Merwin&Hulbert.  As FCK stated it was based off a fired .41 Mag casing(0.435").  It was then cut and a 44 slug pushed in.  And yes it shaved lead and ended as a heeled bullet.  But it worked.  I saw an original M&H fired on that casing.

OK OK , However , I have noticed that on R & D's website , that they  offer 2 sizes of barrel liner if a guy was to do some smithin at home. The sizes are .357 &.429. This would tell me that there is something out there that uses the .429, or modern 44 size bullet .
When a guy buys a chunk of .429 barrel liner, just what does he convert to?? I would think that it would be 44 spl, 44 Colt, or 44 Russian. However, R&D doesn't offer a 44 cylinder of any kind that I know of .
Maybe if R&D or Kirst would offer a 44 cyl chambered for 44 spl, a chunk of their .429 liner , a gated ring, and an ejector that would fit the rammer slot, like the original type II, that we wouldn't have to wait for , and settle for the 45 LC version that is coming from Cimarron.
I think that the one coming from Cimarron will be  a nice revolver, and I have mine on order too, but I believe that they dropped the ball by not offering a 44 version,  we still need a 44 to go on the 1860 frame, (don't we?)

ramblin on

Hancock,

Go to page two (2) of this forum.  Find posting called "Update on Cim. 2nd Model Richards..." by Abilene.  Read his comment.  He states that a 44 Colt version will be available.

That is the only reason I will buy one.  I do not have one on order at this time.  Money!!  But when I do, it will only be the 44Colt.
