What to get for a woman who wants light guns?

What is generally thought to be the lightest pistol (in .38 special) that might be appropriate for a woman who finds Rugers a bit too hefty for comfort?

I thought about this today.  I suggest Uberti Cattleman SAs in 357 Magnum or Stallions birdshead in 38 Special.  I tried them both against EAAs, Rugers and Bisleys today.  The birdshead Stallions in 38 Special were light and comfortable to grip.

Thank you kindly for the suggestions. I have a few guns for her to try this weekend and a trip to a well stocked cowboy gun store is in the planning stages! I want her to handle as many of these suggestions as possible so she can get a feel for what she likes.

EMF's Stallion.  They're what I got my wife and she loves 'em both.  Only needed a little smoothing and now they sing right along for her.  She's tall (5'8") but has small hands.  My Rugers were just too big for her.  I even had her try the Ruger Birdsheads.  Still too hefty.  They we happened by the EMF booth at last year's EOT.  She picked up one of thsoe Stallons and it was love at first sight....er...touch.

I appreciate all the good advice I'm getting here. I'm going to try to get this particular woman to handle a bunch of pistols to see what she likes the best. She is easy going and will shoot anything but I really want her to have a good experience and like her guns.

For a light, small framed gun, I find the Cimarron Lightnings to be one good option. They aren't period correct, but they feel good and shoot straight. My wife has medium-sized hands and prefers her 5 1/2" AWA's. We are both waiting for the Hartford Remmies. You may want to look into SAA's of any manufacture as a smaller gun than the Rugers. I have large hands and still far prefer the feel and balance of the SAA or 1875 Remington to a Ruger.

When I was looking for guns for my son, I looked at the Cimarron Lightning, but also found a Thunderer and compared the two.  There is not much practical difference in size and the Thunderer takes almost all the regular Model P parts, so that was a real plus for me.

Good luck getting here started.. I think just having a set of guns that is their very own helps get folks enthused.

My wife shoots a pair of the jrs and loves them. She's of small stature and has small hands. They fit her quite well and she could even shoot duelist with them if she wanted. They have the 4 3/4" barrels and seem to balance nicely for her..........Buck
