Title: When you can't find one you can afford...
Post by: The Pathfinder on September 22, 2018, 04:49:22 PM
Build one. Been trying to find a Colt Cavalry issue for years but every time I thought I got there, something came up and the funds went elsewhere. Have managed to collect up a number of parts tho, and earlier this year I managed to latch onto a late (1890) frame all by it's lonesome on an auction. Not pristine but very serviceable and most importantly lately, cheap. So over the spring and summer I've been slowly but surely going thru my parts bins and the pictures are the result. Behold my cheap Colt Cavalry, all parts, with the possible exception of the triggerguard (but even tho the numbers are suspect it looks right), are original Colt. Course I've still got to get the "45 Colt" off the side of the barrel...

Not Dave Lanara or Jim Martin class, but fine for an old man to gloat on.

I'm an old retiree from th Air Farce, I've managed to collect all, as far as I know, the available replica Cavalry models. I've got Uberti, ASM, USFA Nettleton, and the Pietta. I do have a cut down Colt Artillery model, but it has been 'bubba'd' and is now serial number 1. I replaced the barrel with a 5 1\2" , why they cut the barrel shorter I'll never know. The six digit frame and both the five digit backstrap and triggerguard had all the numbers scratched off except for the first digit of '1'. I'll try to post some pics of it tomorrow.

Kewwwlllll!!!!!

I recently got an un-fired Uberti 7th Cav. repro.  I like it a lot more than I thought I would.

Feel the freedom to post some pics of that Nettleton if you like. ;D

And the last two. I speculate because of what's left that the frame was 1377XX, saddest part is they also removed the R.A.C. from the front of the frame. The Cavalry model frame is 137741 Weird that I would come up with two so close together. May have to see if I can recover the numbers on the Artillery.
