Afternoon all.

Cloudy and 45 in California.  Just got home from walking the dog.  We didn't get rained on, so I'll count it as a nice weather walk.  We went about 3 miles, give or take.

Yesterday I got a check from ole' uncle Sam for $20.  Apparently the USFS paperwork gods didn't like something in my paperwork and didn't pay me for the last day I worked.  They got it straightened out, and I got my last check.  I think I'll use it to buy some ammo... ::)

Got my package of Black Rifle Coffee today, so I will let y'all know how it was in a little bit.

I have the coffee on.... either the Black Rifle is so good TK wont say, (doesn’t want to share it) or it is so strong he hasn’t landed yet from tasting it.

Gonna make my weekly feed store run this morning.

Good trees are hard to find around here. I've taken to buying them potted for Christmas, then release them into the wild when the holidays are over.

Afternoon all.

I've got a report on the BRC.  I didn't get it brewed yesterday because I had to make an unexpected trip to the city.  I did get to bring my shotgun home though.  But back to the coffee.
I got the "Just Black" brew, which is a Medium-Dark roast.  It's certainly better than most other medium roasts.  I personally prefer a darker roast, but I still had three cups of this. ::)

It's getting rainy here, and the sn*w level is down to 1900 tonight.  Yay.

We usually go cut down a Douglas or White Fir about 1-2 weeks before Christmas, then afterwards take a chainsaw to it and throw the remnants in the fireplace.  Multi-use.  ::)

You can't save them. One day they will snap and become a hipster again.

I deal with a lot of them at work, won't be hard to have a whole herd of them worshipping  and being my minions.

Work the frock coat and such to work on Halloween and they were awe struck and asked about it.  They found out what I do on the side and they think I'm so cool.

Is everybody still in bed? Morning all, it be a bit chilly, but not too cold and the coffee is hot. Watching some Smokey and the Bandit, warming up with some hot Go Juice. Going to town in a bit. Need water, and my buddy at the Hunting store has more leather work for me to do. His Mama has a 22 snubby that needs a new holster. He asked for some floral carving on it, but I'm afraid that snubby may not have enough room for a whole lot. He also wants a 3rd sling, this one for his shotgun, before Turkey season starts.

Going to back to bed, had to run grandson to school.

Thought I was going to have to run some wanna be lumberjack and his ankle bitting Fiat off the road, if I have my signal on don't speed up to cut me off.  Mile or so later had to get over again and this time he let me over, no problem, even slowed down.

Weekend began at zero 7 this one. So a nap was deserved after biscuits and gravy.

Headed off to mill in Jeep, Suzanne needed truck here to move some things with.  I get my stuff and pay for it. This place has great chstomer service, they remember your name what you buy etc. the manager has a pair of old model Vaqueros he shoots. Always has a story to share. All the customers like him.   Today i am inside paying, he meets me at the door, tells me i have water leak on the jeep. The other employee is under it seeing if it is something  they can fix quickly.  Looks like lower radiator hose.  The mechanic is between there and home. The gage shows normal temp. So i head to mechanic. About a mile down the road it over heats. I shut it down and pull off road. I called my wife she brought me 3 gallons of water.  Said a little prayer for a favor. Then headed to mechanics. She followed behind. Made it there without a overheat. So now it is at mechanic. I asked him while he had if to repair the ignition switch. Or activator pin switch. Thingy bob.  Before it leaves me stranded too. Looks like i get my Christmas guft early. Just bought tires for truck last week. Suzanne said that was her Christnas gift. Like the tune of $850 with tax and mounting etc.
Sure wish i had a mule and wagon....

What year Jeep?  Mine is a 2009.  Went through a period where it didn't want to start.  Discovered that if I push the gear selector (automatic) forward it would start.  Apparently, it was (and sometimes still is) a fault in the switch indicating that it lever isn't in park.

Never had those problems when you put the key in a hole in the dash and hit the starter thing with you right toe. ;D

Last winter one cold night got off late, had trouble starting The Field Marshall.  Had turned the switch on with the key, was in neutral, clutch out, left foot on the brake, right one with heel on the gas, toe trying to find the switch, right had trying to find the choke.   ::)

Evening all.

New shotgun report.  The danged thing kicks like a mule that sat on a cactus.  Somewhere around 6.5 pounds, and we were shooting magnum buckshot. ::)  I think it kicks harder from the other end, though.

I finished a pretty long video today.  Well, long for me anyway.  Came out at almost 9 minutes.  Now I just have to upload it.

Same weather pattern here, Slim. Currently 61, rain moved in just after dark, now supposed to drop to 33 and then maybe 40 tomorrow.

TK: Magnum buckshot? for a 6 1/2 lb shotgun, maybe 2 3/4" field loads for me.....

Never had those problems when you put the key in a hole in the dash and hit the starter thing with you right toe. ;D

I got a couple like that out back. ONE OF THESE DAYS, they'll live again! '50 GMC and '53 Chevy 1-ton. Maybe when I'm retired and travel time is less of a problem, use one to drive to the Grand Muster. ;D

That's any stick today today  and I would not other than a play toy.  Carbs, points and all that are a PIA, despite what some try to tell use.  Yeah, replace them every 6000 miles and wear the rings out by 100,000 dumping raw gas over them on cold days.

Most of those were also 6 volt, more fun on a cold day.

Now that i can see pitcher. You might want to start a go fund me page to buy the glue your gonna need. :))
25 foot of paracord and a short dowel rod or a screwdriver would be handy for clamping it tight while glue dries.

I have a swivel desk chair similar to the white one - bought at a auction for a few bucks, in Stuarts Draft Virginia. I think the story was it once belonged to Thomas Jefferson who lived nearby.  Not related to the former President, just some guy who shared the same name.  I replaced the seat with a piece of skirting leather. Cleaned it up. I still prefer it over a contempory desk chair.

Got the new hammer spring for the Beretta in the mail last night.  About 5 minutes of work, and now the DA trigger has been reduced from 13lbs to about 9.  Going to grab a couple boxes of ammo and test it out in a while.

In the mean time, I've walked the dog, have some bread dough rising, and am about to vacuum the living room carpet.

I'm in  need of espresso, coffee ain't going to cut it. Been off the past couple days, not quite under the weather, but far from chipper. Was dog tired last night, and turned in at 7. Woke up feeling kinda funky at 9, and wide awake. So, it was out to the shed to do some leather work. Got a rifle sling tooled up, finished it around midnight when the genny ran out of gas.

Slept in this morning, till the wife called. "I'm coming down the road, get your gun." It seems somebody whacked a deer around the corner, and left it flailing in the road. So off we go to dispatch the poor critter, and I butchered it out the best I could. Somewhere between a button and a spike, he would have been a good one in time. Now my back is really screaming at me. Just threw on The Hateful Eight, going to take some drugs, and hopefully pass out till morning time.

It's in pieces.  Wood is solid, but rough, block plane time.

Couple years ago I was wishing I had a small block plane, was under the bench to get the big jack plane and there was a block plane with masking tape on it said $5.  To this day I don't remember buying it.

Cool and wet today.  Jeep broke down last night.  At least it was across the street from the mechanic.  It won't go into gear.  It acts like the shifter linkage is broken....hope it is that simple!

Morning all.

My friend's '03 Ford Ranger sometimes will get the shift linkage "tangled," for lack of a better word.  It won't go into park or first when that happens.  You have to crawl under the truck with it in neutral (!) and pull the end of the screw from the loop in the S-hook.   It's a factory part, and the mechanic's advice is "stop going mudding in your commuter vehicle."  Valid advice, but it isn't happening...

Sunny day here.  Forecast for 55.  It's 30 right now.

Kick the rock from out of the tire, jump in turn key to on, pull the choke out if cold,  put in 3rd gear drift down hill and pop the clutch... ::) push choke back in and cruise on down the road.... them were the days.

Never had a truck to crank-although the old Chevy did have a crank hole, the 216 engine had been swapped for a 235 and no crank "ears" on the front pulley.
Cranked a few tractors, though. The "A" Farmall isn't too bad. Worst I've cranked was a model "L" Case. 403 cubic inch 4 cylinder. When I was 20 years younger, it took everything I had to start that thing. I doubt I could do it now.

My old Massey Harris 101 Jr., had the crank set up...i always used the pop the clutch method.

Morning Coffee is up....cooler and overcast here. Saying snow up North East (Ft Payne area)of here over into to NWGeorgia and SE Tennessee. Higher elevations than here

Jeep is ready will pick up this morning a bit later. It has been an expensive few weeks with vehicles. Bought tires for truck last week. The jeep still needs them also and a new exhaust.

Got the Jeep back.  It was just the cable linkage from the gear shift to the transmission had broken, but you wouldn't know it from the cost of the repair!

Cold, wet, and fairly breezy. Had to have more wood delivered yesterday, which was quite the chore. I asked for the wood to be dropped off over the weekend, cause we need to go to Athens on Friday. "Can't do it, how about Thursday?". Well, the wife is working all week, 7P to 7A, and I really didn't want her being woke up by the dogs. I ask if he could do it yesterday, "nope". After 20 minutes of back and forth texts, we finally settle on Thursday... today. I get a call on Tuesday, "It's 100% chance of rain on Thursday, how about Wednesday?" I swear it would have almost been easier to just cut my own  ::)

So on Friday, it is supposed to be freezing rain and snow, on our trip to Athens. It is always interesting, when you have a lifelong Flordida Cracker driving in snow  ;)

I learned to always park the Case on a hill at the top of the driveway. Problem was, if it didn't start on the first "pop", then it was in the way, keep trying and it would be in the road, then you need to get another tractor to either pull start it, or drag it back out of the way.

Afternoon all.

Sunny and 60 today.  25 last night, so there is ice everywhere.

Took the dog for a walk, got barked at by some tweaker and his chihuahua while out.  We were a few miles from the highway (which at that point is about 3 miles from town) so I'm not entirely sure what he was doing, or how he got there. ???  I had the bigger dog though, so it all turned out okay.

So since it was snowing- i decided to take it to feed store and get some feed and be able yo keep it dry in the hatch.  Got there and they apparently can’t work in the snow.  Will call them in morning to see if they are open before i drive

Got down to 19 last night, according to the thermometer.  Crystal clear sky, so no fluffy white stuff.   Might get some up north/higher elevation tonight, though.  We'll see.

About to head out with the dog to make another video.  I made one impromptu yesterday, but I've been planning this one for a while.  Hopefully it turns out okay.  I just have to find my folding saw. ::)

Church dinner today. Up at 5:30 to put a turkey in the brand new electric roaster pan. Sorry, Delmonico, I don't have any cast iron big enough for an 18 lb bird. Roasting at 450 first 30 min, then turn down to 325, then I'll probably go lay down a while again. Getting up at 5:30(and staying up) is too much like a w**k day.

I'll leave the pot on the back of the stove for all you later risers.

Foggy and 25 right now.  Supposed to hit 50 today.

I'm sick enough that I stayed home from church today.  Going an hour through a mountain pass with plugged sinuses just isn't my idea of a good time.  Also, the dog went into heat last night, so I'm keeping an eye on her now.  We're going to try and get her spayed in the next two months or so.  At $250 base cost, it's a bit more of an expense than it's worth right now.

Back from another successful church Christmas dinner. 4 turkeys, 4 hams, some brisket, and many various pot luck dishes. Had some volunteers that put away the tables and chairs, so I didn't have to! Wife made 2 desserts, I brought a pan of sweet tater, and she made up a couple hundred (not exact, but a bunch) of her locally famous lumpia (Philippine egg rolls). By the time I went through the line, all that stuff was gone! Oh, well, I can get that at home.

Evnin'.  Just dropping in to see what condition your condition is in.  Catching up, I chuckled at the car-truck stories, clutch starting and all.  One of the first things I taught my boys was how to clutch start a stick.  I had a 1957 Chevy that the starter went out in, and I was too broke to replace it and still be able to drive and have a social life, so I chose to drive.  I took to parking on a slope, one direction or the other when ever I could; but it didn't really matter much, because in those days I still had more muscle than brains, and on relatively flat ground, I could push it fast enough to get it started by my self.  I drove it that way for months.  Had on girl I dated would get out and help; another, first date, she told me not to call her again until I got my car fixed, it was embarrassing for her to be seen with me having to push my car for fifty feet to get it started.  Never did call her again.

Winter has finally come to Las Vegas Valley - sort of.  Chillly nights, nice days, windy a lot.  I expect it will get colder before it gets warm again, but it's still not jacket weather for me.

Time to go see about rustling something up for supper.

Later.

The cruds have intensified.  Yesterday I didn't get to sleep until 4AM, then managed to sleep through the alarm at 7:30, my mom coming in and turning the alarm off, the dog barking at another dog outside and a documentary about aliens.   I didn't wake up until 11:45. :o
Last night I got to sleep somewhere around 2, and woke up with the alarm at 6:50.  I'm not sure how the alarm got changed to 6:50, but that's when I got up.

Well, I wouldn't say these were cheap, but more reasonable than a year or two ago. Hogs will stay cheap as long as Cargill, and the other pork giants control the market. They own most of what they need from birth to slaughter to the store shelf. At least so far, nobody has done "factory farming" with beef.

Yes they do - like pork n poultry it’s contracted. I have been involved  with that type of programs, just has a cowboy not owner.

Morning the colder air has moved in... so i’ve got the coffee and hot water for coco on.

I don’t own a FIT, however i use my Iphone and track my steps everyday. I have not been doing good thru the summer. A good day would have been 2000 steps. Kind of weak.  I started therapy and my energy level has increased and i am able to do a little more activity after my woork out. So now i have gone from 2000 and or less to 4500 to yesterdays 6000 steps. This is not by any means fantastic. However it is a great improvment.  This is all with my oxygen pack strapped to my back too. I get strange looks and had a gun shop owner get a little nervous when i asked my wife to turn the volume up on it while it was on my back. He calmed down when i told him what she was doing. Another story. I attribute the extra weight though to making additional walking and movements more strenuous.

We are going to finish our family shopping today. I will sneak out Friday and get mine finished.  Then maybe some seafood for dinner today.

Going to head out with a friend this afternoon and get a truckload or two of oak before the wood cutting permits expire at the end of the month.

Got about a cord or so of good oak before dark today.  I don't know what the weight rating on a Ford Ranger is, but it's somewhere less than one cord of oak.

I'd say "Somewhat less" would be somewhat of an understatement! ;D  Never had a ranger, but I can tell you that if you fill the bed of a Dodge Dakota a bit over level full with green oak, the drive home will be "interesting".

Yeah, I'm sure there's a little of that, but for the most part, at least for now, cattle are mostly owned by independents, not much "vertical integration". I'm planning on building up a herd to keep me busy when I retire in about 5 years and 4 1/2 months(but who's counting). Had as many as 70-75 head before the big "D" about 15 years ago, but that's a lot of work on this place, would either have to rent pasture or rent hay ground, and both are hard to come by around here.

Rangers Short Wheel Base about 1000lbs , extra cab around 900 lbs
I've had a 94 SWB & 2002 EC ....hay & feed mostly , but I did tote a Ford 300CDI straight 6 long block to the rebuilding machine shop in the short wheel base to & back assembled once... no issues.

put 197,000 on the 2002 and it still ran great and used no oil .... sold it to a neighbor ranch, they still use it .

Thank you for coffee- my monday.

Cord wood from google. I could not remember 3rd deminsion

One full cordA full cord is a large amount of wood. It measures four feet high by four feet wide by eight feet long (4 ft. x 4 ft. x 8 ft.) and has a volume of 128 cubic feet. The amount of solid wood in a cord varies depending on the size of the pieces, but for firewood it averages about 85 cubic feet.

That number is hard to get in a modern full size truck without sideboards. Clever stacking and heavy springs might help though.  We burn so little we just buy it from one of the log dogs in area. Usually the guy with the wood powered truck.

I think that for a full size, 8' wide bed truck, about 1/2 cord if you fill it level full. Middle section of the floor is about 4X8, but the bed sides are less than 2ft high, with the area around the wheel wells making up the difference. But since the ranger bed is smaller length and width, it's have to be piled up pretty full to get 1/2 cord. In my younger years, I used to sell a little wood, I had a '53 Chevy 1 ton flatbed don't remember the dimensions of the bed, but I had made sideboards about 28-30 in high that would hold 1 cord when stacked level full.

I think a common term for a 1/2 cord is a face cord and is often thought to be a cord.

Ok, face cord is 1/3rd volume and would weigh around 1200 to 1400
pounds if oak.  A hefty load for a Ranger.   Also sometimes called a Rick.

How much is in that "face cord" would depend on how long you cut the wood. 16" wood would get you 1/3, but 24" would make 1/2. A "rick" could be any amount depending on how far apart the end posts or trees are.

For firewood here I burn all sorts of trash wood, results of clearing fencerows or overgrown pasture. Stove is full of elm right now. When it gets real cold I'll try to get mostly oak or thorny locust. Locust burns pretty hot, but tends to make a lot of sparks every time you open the stove door and a rush of air hits it. Rarely burn hickory, unless it's from saplings because I don't have a log splitter, or sycamore, except for dropped dead limbs. Both are hard to split, and sycamore seems to produce more ashes than heat.

Morning y'all.
Thanks fer the coffee.

The sticks/logs of a face cord are usually 16" long. Therefore, a face cord is usually 1/3 of a full cord.

I burn any hardwood that is available, but mostly oak. Black locust is also good because of its density, but is produces a lot more ash than oak. BTW, burning popple produces pregnancy.  ::)

Got 3/4" of sn*w overnight.

We burned our share of Aspen in the west and Tulip Poplar in the east. Not a real hot burner but will work, another that leaves alot ash.  Nice wood for furniture and crafting though.  I’ve seen cottonwood that was milled also for mostly barn building.  I believe Teddy Roosvelt wrote in his journals about cutting logs for his cabin the Blackhills. I believe it was Cottonwood.

Afternoon all.

Sunny and 45 in California.  Headed for 50 according to the NOAA.  We'll see how close they get.

Went up to one of my lookout towers from the summer last night.  The local radio club, of which I'm a member, has some equipment up there that needed work, so we worked on it.  Seems to be fixed.  It was about 20 degrees up there at sunset, and got colder after that.  About a 20mph wind.  Had to put the front end in on the truck to get through the sn*w/ice on the way up.  The tower sits right at 6000 feet (6055 in the cab ::) ).

About that wood.  We loaded the Ranger (short base 2003 Sport) cab high, with log lengths about 7- 9 feet.  Some logs were 12-14" diameter, and I'd guess 200lbs or more.  Took both of us to load them.  The springs were bottomed out, but it wasn't my truck, and he seemed not to care.  It was only 1 mile or so back home, but it was a little squirrely.

My Dad and I used to haul wood that way in his CJ-7(of course, they were 6" poles, not 12-14")Leave the tailgate down and stack it full with poles sticking out 2-3' beyond the tailgate. Just 15-20ft from the road was a small dip, and one time....the wood went down and the front wheels went up. Mud in the dip. Jeep wasn't going anywhere with the front wheels spinning in the air. So from the safety of the gravel road, I hooked a tow chain to my Chevy Vega and pulled him out. Ok, actually all it did was pull the front down so he got traction, but forevermore, I had pulled his JEEP out of the mud with my VEGA!

There are Jeepers, and then there are "Jeepers."  The former likely have rescued a Hummer or something of the sort.  The later bought a $30,000 JK Sahara and park it on the curb at the mall in their skinny jeans.  I know both types.  ::)

Dad's jeeps were both CJ-7s. Fist I believe was late 70's (77 maybe?) Sis cylinder automatic. Pretty much unstoppable. Then he traded it for a new mid 80's one, still a six, but with a 4 speed. That's the one we stuck with the firewood. He always regretted the trade. No mechanic we could find could keep it running right. I think it was a case of trying too hard to make a carbureted motor meet the ever stricter emissions standards.

I turned a topless with Windshield removed, Willys over responding to a tripflare. The M60  ammo cans and 2 nationals were thrown free. The steering wheel kept it from crushing me. That and it was low speed roll over. I was able to dig my self out while the other 2 grabbed up our firearms and called for help. It was a ferrel cat or dog that set off the flare.  Seemed like a long time but a apc crew showed up and we righted. Recovery crew showed up later changed the oil and anti freeze the jeep back on it’s wheels. We finished the shift. I recieved a reprimand.  Always loved them Jeeps ever since

Need two washers to use between the legs and nothing in the junk bucket suitable and doubt much chance at the hardware store, weirds most of them out when I show up with calipers.

Will just make them, should be about the same time involved as a hardware store trip unless I got lucky and scored at the first one.

Evening all.

Grandmother arrived at 1500.  I was out with the dog at the time.

It sn*wed in town last night, kind of.  Enough to notice when I got up, but gone by 8.  But the mountains were white, so I took the dog and we went up a back trail to a lake we've been to before.  It's a 4 mile trail that goes from 2800 feet up to 6500.  We made it about 1/4 mile from the lake when the trail got covered in sn*w enough that it disappeared.  It was late enough in the day, coupled with a storm blowing in over the mountain and blocking my view of the lake, that I decided to cut my losses and head home.  I think I made the right decision: I can't see the mountain from town.

Thank you for the Coffee Slim..

Major good deal on Dillon. There warrenty will extend to second and third owners.

I have a 650 also. Not all the upgrades but... it is fine for as much as i load these days. I also have a single stage rcbs... wish i had several of them... to leave set up for different task. Like running de-bulging dies etc. prepping brass.

Rain has moved on and another day in the 60’s here..

Yep, thats why I wanted the Lyman .... 'bout any single stage will work, happen to have the other Lyman so...figured I'd bite.

Even though I've got a Dillon 550 I also have a pair of Lyman turrets. The Dillon is for .45 acp and ar while one Lyman is for 45lc the other is for everything else. An old Bair single stage does my rifle work while the last single stage holds the lee bulge buster. It's nice to be able to grab some brass and bullets and throw some loads without a lot of set up. Heres how I set up my Dillon and Lyman. The Dillon drops loads to the right while my mods to the Lyman kick the loads left into the common bin.

And by the way, the suns out bright and it's blowing a gale but it's a cold day here. Coffees hot though.

I have the same Lyman Turret , but not the auto cap feeder and my powder measure is RCBS Micrometer off the turret ...

I'm afraid it's not high tech .... just manual , the Spartan has my flaring dye ....if I find another for $35 or bucks I'll set up my universal de priming  dye.

reached 80 today , warm enough to run the AC in the loading room ....

A universal de primer, set up is one i would do too.
One for doing those pesky rifle rounds that i would make a hundred or less at a time.

Only got up to 65 here, neighbors running around in shorts, i was just tee shirting till i went to town. Then needed something that didn’t print. Not like much would be said in Hobby Lobby if someone noticed. They have started reducing wrapping paper and decorations some as much as 60% off.  In case your queen of the household needs to get started on next years holiday.

It would definitely make it interesting.  ::)  I brought my 280.  Where we were hunting, it's either a 15 yard shot, or a 300 yard shot.  Very little in between.  No luck today, though.  Got about 100 feet from one, but the brush was so thick/terrain so steep that we couldn't see it.  Then he went higher up the mountain.  Oh well.  I'm going back out alone tomorrow.

I could try that, but the problem is....we have to drive an hour to Springfield to get to the Bass Pro, and then "as long as we're here" then she wants to go to the mall or some other store.

Well, here it is less than 24 hours until that day that Arcey was always reminding us of; I am not in the mood. But, in the interest of congeniality, Merry Christmas, and Happy New year, in case I don't get around to it before the change of the year - or, whatever celebratory sentiment floats yer boat.

That .45-70 semi-auto is one sweet looking item; I have always had a penchant for one off, oddball things and that fits me to a T.  If I was rich instead of so handsome, I might have to get me one.

Weather here in Sin City is winter like to a degree; some days are clear, some, like today, are overcast, some windy - more often than not, cool to cold depending on the wind speed; dry.  Prognosticators are saying we're short of rain, but that is just fine by me, I didn't come to live in the desert to enjoy the rain.

Reading back in the posts, I smiled at Good Troys rant about doing a start-up just before the holiday gap; been there, done that.  One time my employer had a large demand customer that wanted to get their new forges up before the break so that on the 26th, when they started into production, they would be up and on line.  We fed their 2.4/4.0KV switch room from a 66KV-12KV, 12KV-4KV substation.  On the 23rd, at about sunset, they were ready, so we set up our system to energize and test from the main substation.  We tested each segment good up to the circuit breaker at the plant that fed their switch room, and all was good.  When we closed the 4KV breaker to their equipment, both of our transformers grunted really hard, the 4KV breaker and the 12KV breaker tripped simultaneously, the 66KV fuses on the feed line all blew, and the 66KV breaker at the main substation locked out; the fault was so severe that it affected the system frequency for a few seconds.  And - I say AND - all of the smoke escaped from their switch room; set off alarms and called out the local fire department.  What a mess.  Needless to say, they did not begin production when they planned to.  Come to find that they had a "bolted short to ground" in their main buss - they had somehow missed it in their inspections.  The only loss to our system was the 66KV fuses, but that's what they were there for.  Man, what a show.

'Nuff war stories.  Y'all have a good Christmas.

Later.

Merry Christmas all.

Weather hit 65 today, with blue skies and a very gentle breeze.   Yesterday the high was 45.

The dog was totally confused by all of the wrapping paper this morning, but we got her a 2 foot long rawhide, so that made up for it.  ;)

I took the dog for a walk up to the top of one of the hills around town this morning, which is about 3500 feet.  The view was pretty good, but I can't get a picture of appreciable size on here.

PE, we candy our sweet potatoes, then before it's time to serve them we put marshmallows on top and brown them in the oven.  Are we uncultured heathen? :P

Marshmallows are for roasting on a stick around a campfire. Just get in the way when you cover the sweet taters with them!

Dinner's over, cleanup done. Had some extra time for wasting ammunition. Dug out the 32-20 pistols, one an early 1900's Colt, the other a pre WWII S&W DA.  Just plinking at some plastic oil bottles that happened to be laying around my range. Stopped when my feet were getting cold. Still have leftover sn*w here from Saturday morning.

Evening all.

High was 40, low is supposed to be low 20s.  Possible white stuff up higher.

Went and burnt some powder today.  Finished zeroing my brother's 308, and double-checked my 280.  308 took 6 rounds, and the 280 was 1/4 MOA low and right.  Got it all straightened out, then stretched to 150yards.  I put a 1.5" group on a standard NRA 25y rifle target.  My brother was flinching, but managed to get both on paper, so we called our "long range" shooting a success. ::)

I've got some sugar cookies cooling on the wire rack right now, then they will be frosted and sprinkled and eaten for dessert.  Main course is going to be pizza.

+11 here tonight, why does every knot head thinks they have to tell you it's cold out when they come in the door?

And it's warm in the store, take yer damned gloves off before you get out your wallet and try to pay.  There is a damn line behind you that wants to get their shit and git out. ::)

Language Del language  ;D  ::) ::) ;D. You might make me blush... :o

+11 and they are wearing gloves, why?  Honestly i waited in line to pay, i am going to take my time doing it. I will thank the employee that assist me, if is cold, I will ask them if they are warm enough. I might have a extra coat or gloves i can offer. But i will not be rushed. It is my turn, i learned this from a past potus.

I spoke with friend near Elk River, Mn. last evening, said he had his truck plugged in and really had no where important to go today.

Morning Coffee is up

Did not get trip to Tractor supply in yesterday maybe today.  Did get everything else on list done. Today different day...

We are spending the holidays with our son and daughter's families in Florida. It is 71 degrees and sunny today. Back home in Wisconsin it is 11 degrees. Two days ago the wind chill was minus 17.

The sunsets in Florida are spectacular.

Trip to BassPro and Tractor Supply today. Stopped at a new gunshop in between there. Lots fire arms.  Including some Cowboy type guns.  Looked at a AR style “pistol” 10 inch barrel flip up sights.  Little pricey though.
Tractor Supply was just stock up stop Tee post etc.

Got home about 4pm from work today. Used the daylight to re-fill the wood rack on the porch, since it's supposed to be 15 or so Saturday, 10 Sunday for highs.

Morning all. The coffee is hot, and the weather is-50. Not negative 50, just colder than 50... all the same to me.

I had my 3 month trip to the Cancer Treatment Center the day after Christmas. The tests all came back clean-ish. Still no cancer, but I have some bad sinus issues, and arthritis in my neck now.

But that is nothing, compared to what the wife gave me. Christmas eve, we were at the kid's home, and I noticed some Mistletoe in a tree in the front yard. So I dragged her out under the tree and give her a big kiss. She gave me a stomach bug in return. The bug didn't hit me until the second day out there, as I was waiting to see the Doc. It took probably an hour for her to see me, and by that time, that bug was really ramping up. I said "I know I only get to see you every 3 months, but you really need to wrap this up... NOW!" She wanted to put me in the Urgent Care, I just wanted to go back to bed. I had stuff just waiting to come out both ends, and it wasn't going to wait long. Still getting over that now, but doing much better.

We made it to MN.
I filled the windshield washer fluid reservoir half full before we left.  Light sn*w started 'bout an hour into the trip. Temp was 4. The salt on the roads were turning the snow into slush instead of melting it.  ::) The washer fluid was freezing on the windshield. Then, 'bout half way into the trip the washer fluid ran out. So, I went to the next exit and threw sn*w on the windshield to clear it and continued west on I-94. Stopped at the next exit where there was a c-store. Washer fluid was sold out. Cleaned the windshield and continued west on I-94. I repeated this a couple more times until I found washer fluid. I added a bottle of Heet to help it from freezing in the windshield. Fun!

Sounds fun Slim.  Y'all can keep that white stuff on that side of Continental divide, and I wouldn't even be mad. ::)

Evening all.

Current conditions are foggy and 30.  Supposed to get to 20-ish.  My grandma is wanting to go look for rocks along the river in the morning, but I'm thinking splitting and then burning some of that wood out back might be more enjoyable.  Or bear hunting.  I still have two more days to fill my tag.

Cap, my friend had the same thing on the 25/26/27.  Naturally he tells me this while he's in my truck on the 28. :o  Two oranges, an apple, and 1000mg of pill form vitamin C later, and I'm still okay.  For now.

Currently a warm 20 degrees and dropping. Bright sunshine. Cut about a half load of seasoned elm for the stove, now to go set out a round bale for the heifers. The last one isn't all gone, but with a forecast high of maybe 10 for the next few days, I'll do my tractoring(and wood cutting) now!

Had good time at the Melbourne (Fla) Gun Show.... My friends John (Capt. John ) Holmes & Mike (Coffin Maker) Rudolph, joined me .
John bought a unfired ( at least condition appears that way ) WALKER  Replica Arms - El Paso, Tx  what was later Allen Arms  and then Cimarron.
Date code is 1963 ... Nice

I found a little Sothern Derringer in 22 short , tight and right ...cool little vest pocket piece....

But my best score was an 32 Hammerless Iver Johnson minty in Box , with accessories, no indication it was ever fired.

I think the Darwin award winnerS for the year has been found..

2 electrocuted at substation

Police are investigating the apparent electrocution of two people early Friday at a Detroit Public Lighting Authority building, Fox 2 reported on Saturday.

A worker reportedly told Fox 2 he found the bodies just after 6:30 a.m. when he went to the substation to investigate a power outage. The pair are suspected of breaking in the front door of the substation, and, according to Fox 2, they were in the process of stealing copper wiring when they were electrocuted.

Police confirmed to the news organization that two men pried open the front door of a Public Lighting substation, and once inside made contact with 24,000 volts of electricity.

According to the police, the electricity caused their bodies to be fused together, and they were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have not yet given the names of the men.

The substation is located on the city's east side.

Takes a real rocket scientist to think stealing copper wire from a live circuit is a good plan.

Nice finds at the fun show, M-2!

10 degrees here, WC -3. worked about 2 hours outside cutting some wood, and that's about long enough! Supposed to be up to 13 tomorrow, probably do another couple hours woodcutting. It's enough that I'm cutting faster than I burn it. Probably have enough for the winter without it, though.
