Anybody know how difficult it is to use a 5 shot .45cal conversion cylinder on a 51/60?
I'm concerned about the DIYability of such a thing with C&B's designed for 6 shots.
Doesn't work need to be done on the hand, and hammer notches for the trigger?

It just so happens I DO know how difficult it is to use a 5 shot R&D style 45 Conversion cylinder on a 51/60. How 'bout dat??
Imagining we are talking about a Pietta, it's pretty simple. First, just put the cylinder in the gun. It may work as a "drop in" (I doubt it) and if it just drops in, your gold. First test is to place the cylinder for the "lock" position and try to cock the gun. You will probably have a "hard" jam as the bolt hasn't withdrawn but the hand is trying to push the cylinder.
To time it up, you will need to slowly and carefully remove some metal from the top of the hand. SLOWLY and CAREFULLY. Two passes with the file, try fit, repeat as necessary. When you have the R&D cylinder working properly, the Cap cylinder won't. Slow cocking, the C&B cylinder won't index into battery. It will stop a bit short (Slow cocking). When you cycle the action the way you shoot in a match, the inertia of the cylinder will carry it through to lock up. When completely timed up, the gun can be a "convertible." Instead of packing a cartridge gun in case of dodgy weather, just tote a cylinder. Questions??
Oh, remember, when your working on the top of the hand, as you work it down, maintain all of the angles and dangles.
