I tend to pack a handgun while deer hunting since there's a fair bit of pucker-brush on the land I hunt, and this year I took 'The Outlaw' .45. It's a handy gun that I shoot well, and a mid-range 200gr. RNFP will do just fine for the local Blacktails at close range.

I had to use a holster that wasn't made for the gun, and while it worked OK it was too long and not a perfect fit so I decided it was time for it to have it's own. I worked on this between other projects and finished it yesterday. It's a simple no-frills western holster of un-lined 7-8oz. tooling leather and the double-needle whip-stitch on the edges is done in #7 linen cord. It's dyed British Tan and Dark Brown and finished with Fiebing's Carnauba cream wax. The traditional hammer-spur thong holds the gun securely but is easily removed to draw the gun. It rides high on the belt and I can sit without the muzzle of the holster hitting the bench- or chair or whatever. I carry it at 4-o'clock on the belt behind my hunting knife and the 4" Case spey-blade folder that I use for skinning.

I'm pretty happy with how this has come out, and will be giving it a try in the field next time I go out.

Nice gun, and you did a very nice job on the holster, it should serve your needs well, some times it's just easier to make things the way we want them, well done pard... 8)

Thumbs-up, TP. That shorty .45 is a fine pistol and deserves a fine holster. Nice job.

Straight up and down at about 4 O'clock, right behind my hunting knife and case folder.
